"We guarantee that no depositor will lose any money as a result of the closure of Icesave," said a Treasury spokesman.
As part of its plan the UK government has frozen all the British assets of Landsbanki until the position of savers in the UK becomes clear.

Yey! :beer:0 -
The UK government will pay the compensation and then go after the icelandic authorities for it!! This is obviously a better option for everyone involved.
Unless you fancy your chances trying to get ur money back form iceland?
As for the people who seem happy to gloat in the faces of people like myself who have money in icesave i hope u live really happy lives and that you never have the misfortune of facing the possiblilty that you lose all the savings you have for your families support. Im sure you would be different if it was your bank thathas gone under
yes I am very very glad we are covered and so plsd the govt will do this, and safeguarding us individuals who would be devastated by this. And yes I agree best for us they help us short term and they have to battle with the Icelandics rather us individuals having to.
All I was just saying is that hope they do get it back from the Icelandics / Nordics. But hey it wont be the first time international debts are not paid back between countries would it0 -
I use this site a lot but dont really post - however, just wanted to say I'm very pleased for all of you that your not going to lose your dosh and congrats to Alistair Darling and the British Government - I did have money in Iceland but shifted it out some time ago now. Personally if i had money in Iceland now after they have done the dirty on us Brits I would be shifting it out and placing it in the UK.0

Presumably the wonderful UK post will have let that cheque float around for about a week or so before Icesave/Landsbanki receive it out in Iceland. Then I reckon Icesave would have taken atleast a week to process it before... we get interrupted by the current situation we're in.
I'm just praying the numbers crop up into the Icesave account so then at least getting compensation is one step easier. As it stands, it looks like a few grand have just disappeared into thin air.
hmm, they sent me money by inter bank clearing (or something like that!) - guess they were desperate for money yesterday!!! urgh.0 -
Just announced on BBC news: Icesave's UK deposits are being taken over by ING. I hope that this is the good news that many wanted to hear.0

It is better we all loose interest for as long as it takes than to not get any money back at all.
Better to get £500,000+ backEverything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
Icesave's parent bank, Landsbanki, was taken over by the Icelandic government on Tuesday and declared insolvent.
The internet bank has about 300,000 customers in the UK.

That is the most positive statement so far!
Frankly I don't care if it takes a few months (or more) to get my money back, so long as I know 100% that I will eventually get it back.
Fingers crossed the statement later on says what we all want to hear and it is just a case of sending a claim form into the FSCS.
I recommend printing a screenshot of your account balance ASAP (which you can still do) ready to send with the FSCS claim form.
I have dealt with many claims against the FSCS through my work and they currently take over 6 months to process anything, some cases are up to 18 months or more, but hopefully they will implement some kind of fast track system for Icesave customers.0 -
I am not prepared to be in a situation where I can't get to it until the bank collapses and then someone works out how long it'll take!
An important point - a lot of the people here only had a problem because they NEEDED to get the money back - if you can afford to wait 6 months you were always going to be OK0 -
I agree that I don't care how long it take to come back, as long as it does.
Some can't take screen shots of the accounts, as many of us have tried to transfer money, it has left account balances but is in limbo somewhere within the Icesave!Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
