  • I withdrew £16,000 from my Icesave ISA last night. Have checked balance today, and i'ts left Icesave account. Do you think it will actually be credited?

I'm in same position, only I managed to transfer this morning about 8.30am (even though it said transactions suspended)

Transaction appeared to work and statement showed balance cleared but now my problem is I can't get back in to check as it advised if I removed all funds I would be denied access to site - which is the case.

Basically it would appear I have no money with Icesave but don't know if this is the case or not. Unable to get through to Icesave to check. Anyone in same situation?

Didn't pay the extra for fast transaction unfortunately as I was unaware of the problem till later - assumed it was a website problem. So my money is literally 'nowhere' at the moment!

You didn't give your money to the financial industry you gave it to a particular bank. You can tell it was an individual entity by the way it was able to give you an attractive interest rate.
    .
When the bank decides to give you £xxxk as a mortgage they do a credit check on you, ask about your income etc.... Thats how they predict you will be able to give it back. It is the responsibility of you as a lender of money to Icesave to think about how they will pay you back.
    .
I agree the FSA etc... could have done more to make it easier for you to make this decision.

So if the FSA could have done more, then it is not our fault!!! Get it???!!!

Jesus, personal responsibility seems to have left this country in May 1997. And people wonder why we get into trouble...

Watched the BBC 6pm news in tears. Keep playing it back which is not helping. They said something about waiting 3months for reimbursement but that is no guarantee - what about those of us that have less than £16K in icesave in the first place - where do we stand??!!

And now with hbos, I just feel like I am being robbed with consent :(

    Super Ted -
No matter which way you put it, its undeniable - you have shown great insensitivity in your comments.
I know you believe you have a point to argue but your posts are rubbing salt in peoples' wounds...
    Kindly stop

The compensation details were made clear in all the articles I've ever read about Icesave, and the same information is available on their web-site....
The press-article becomes less believable when it starts off with less than factual information....

You are not the only saver with savings in Icesave, these are very uncertain times - but no money has yet been lost....

Press statements from Landsbanki suggest it'll be days before they get some signs of light at the end of a darkend tunnel..

Yes there was always a mention o the Iceland compensation scheme, but maybe the warning could have been stronger, maybe we should have all paid more heed.

The money isn't lost yet? did you see the news not 15 minutes ago where the Iceland Prime Minister basically said he has money to cover Iceland Savers, but not the UK Savers! If they don't have money in their scheme how do we get paid back.

so im guilty of putting my money in a BANK, recommended and mentioned on this site and many areas of the media as a best buy and allowed to do business here, not some back street outfit . i work in another industry not the finance do i need to give that up and make full time research into the viability of banks before i put money in them, otherwise its my fault and i take no responsibility?

Trixie, stop worrying; there are a lot of irresponsible people spouting anti-Icesave propaganda at the moment, the media love to do this; even when there is no truth in what the report!

Like many others here I have substantial savings in Icesave (above the guaranteed amount) and I have no intention of moving the cash away from them.

hope no one took notice of this person.......
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

Somewhere up above mentioned there friend taking savings out of Icesave via CHAPS xfer. Please thank your friend from the bottom of my heart as it is people like that who break banks and, in this instance, also break me. I recently placed an inheritance with Icesave and I have now thanks to this run lost the greater part of it. Once again thanks to each and every one who panicked and caused this situation.
