    Sorry to be argumentative but

I don’t think the original post said anything about the non fixed accounts - fair or not fair. I think it said it was fair that the original terms of the fixed rate accounts was being maintained which it is. Then it infers that it is unfair that the fixed account people would not be able to access their interest in such a way as to pay themselves income which, if that was the way they set up their account, it is unfair.

I think you will get your interest and I believe it would be very unfair if you didn’t. But it would give you a much stronger case if the fixed rate people are getting it.

So I don’t agree that it would be O.K. not to pay anyone any interest (your second option). In my book that is not a fair option.

Generally if something unfair or bad happens to a group of people I don’t think it is any fairer that that unfair thing should happen to everyone else. I think that in this case the fact that someone is being treated correctly would not be the reason why someone else is getting a bad deal.

Accidental Thanks when trying to quote.....

I disagree. My interpretation of "fair" is treating people equally and not discriminating against certain subgroups. I think it would be more "fair" if everyone got no interest after the default date, than it would be if some account types carried on earning interest and some didn't. However, obviously the fairest and best outcome all round would be for everyone to get interest after the default date.

GULP, trixie68 hasn't made any comment since starting this post and some not so  posters advising her NOT to panic....following the thread from the early "is something awry?", "nah!" posts now seems almost surreal.

Let's just hope the same can't be said about ING warnings in another few weeks time.

Sorry to heap more potential worry for depositors on this site, but I just heard on Radio 5 that the Dutch Government are having to bail-out ING to the tune of 10 Billion Euros!!

Last week I pulled my last bit of cash out of ING and asked for the account to be closed. They positively begged me to keep it open with loads of reassurances about how viable they were. With cash stuck in Icesave I told them I wanted my cash in the High street as I got stuffed on the 4 day BACS transfer so no more internet banking for me but they pleaded so much I agreed to leave £5 in the account! Made me wonder why I got the treatment but if they are dodgy now........

Did exactly the same. Drew out £13k 3 days after Icescam went down.
No more johnny foreigners holding my cash.
Im keeping it all within brick throwing distance.
Got to stay lean and mean and light on your feet these days, with absolutely NO fixed rate bonds taken out.
  • I'm very surprised that this thread isn't getting more posts as it is the Icesave problem that is of a greater concern than Kaupthing Edge that was taken over by ING almost immediately. I have just received my money back from K.E. today but my wife and I still have 2 frozen ISA's with Icesave totalling £47k.
Disappointing that the last update from the FSCS was on 17th Oct.
