Obviously, you need to go onto Click 6. This involves a phone call as BG don't automatically transfer you to the shiny, CHEAPER Click product. I personally think this is a rather shady way of conducting business (although I accept BG are by no means the only company doing this. IMO the regulator, if they had any teeth, should outlaw this practice of updating the Click products and leaving all those loyal punters on the old, more expensive tariff unless they specifically ask to go onto the new Click product).
Anyway, this is the reality so accept it. Or.............play them at their own game! Scottish Power are currently offering £72 cashback (on Quidco and cashbacckings) for a dual fuel switch. Their online tariff (for me) is at very similar rates to Click 6 (slightly more at approx £5 per month, actually). So, you are currently on Click 5 and are lucky enough to be on this great forum and should now know about Click 6 and plan to move onto it. Patience, there's no rush. Treat it like chess moves with the energy comapnies giving you cash for every move!
Switch to SP through Quidco or cashbackkings, pocket the £72 then switch back to BGs Click 6 and pocket MORE cashback (BG is currently offering a paltry £20 but they have previously offered up to £80, who knows what it will be in a few months time?)
This plan has the added advantage of you being able to INSTRUCT BG that as you are switching supplier you DO NOT agree to the latest price increase on Click 5 and REQUEST they keep you on the old rate (still far cheaper than click 6, btw) until the switch goes through. The switch will probably take approx 2 months, 2 montsh of historically cold weather where your heating will be on for long-ish periods of time so the savings will be even greater than at other times of the year. This way, you get 2 lots of cashback PLUS approx 8 weeks charges at the OLD Click 5 rates!

There is no need to phone, Click 6 can be applied for online with existing user BG account details inserted so as to effect a switch of product.0 -
Remember that click is an internet account. You get it cheaper as you are not supposed to call in.It is supposed to be managed online.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

I don't know if it's just changed but cashbackkings does not currently apprear to offer anything for BG.
Quidco offer £5.00 for a dual fuel sale, £2.50 for a single fuel sale
You'd be better off using one of the comparison sites listed in the resouce bar above currently."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
So the board troll, who has accused others of being hypocrites is not going to put his own money where his big mouth is and switch to UW as his supplier!

Good point, Premier, but BG have recently offered £80 and we don't know what the cashback will be like in the 3 months it will probably take before you need to switch back, so best to check then. I think the main point with my plan is the fact that, in addition to the £72 cashback for switching from BG, you also force BG to charge you at OLD Click 5 rates until the switch happens.
Edit: Based on my projected usage over the next 2 months, just paying the OLD Click 5 rates as opposed to the new Click 6 rates could conceivably save me a further £60. Add that to the £72 from SP and, even in the worse case scenario, £30 from BG when switching to Click 6 and the total comes to £162! How much work is involved here? 2 hours tops, it's all done online so no phone calls and no leaving your house (unless your meters are outside, of course).

I'm just about to! Theres' loads of info on this forum regarding this. Believe me, as long as you respond within 10 days of being officially and individually notified of an increase (don't forget the energy companies are allowed UP TO 65 DAYS to write to you!), tell them you don't accept the increase, are switching to another supplier and requset to be charged at pre-increase prices until the switch goes through, then that's what they have to do! Have a search of the forum for people who have done this previously, here's one such thread:

1carminestocky have you done this already? have they confirmed they will charge you old rates?7.2 If we raise your prices or make a change to this contract that puts you at significant disadvantage, we will let you know in writing within the following 65 working days. The price rise or change will not affect you provided that you:
(a) tell us that you want to end this contract within 10 working days of the day we tell you of the price rise or change; and
(b) you arrange for a supply from another supplier and we receive notice of this from your new supplier within 15 working days of the day you told us you wanted to end your contract."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Great spot, Premier! I'm assuming if you already applied to switch before the increase happened, it's just a matter of emailing them to requset that, as you don't agree with the increase and have already taken steps to switch, then they still have to bill you at the old rate?Call me Carmine....
