We have had it done now and they have done a good job, as far as I can tell. I didn't get any other quotes because this guy was recommended to me by my friend's boyfriend. Also, he came round on a Wednesday and said that he would be able to start the next weekend which was also an added bonus. From speaking to people at work, they seemed to think that I was getting an excellent deal, as they were expecting it to cost me around £4k. They started working on the Saturday morning (around 8.30am) and finished at around 8pm, then on Sunday they started the same time and finished at around 2.30pm as they had run out of materials and then they were here all day Monday and left around 8pm. He's also coming back tomorrow just to check that everything is in order. I live in South London so would imagine I live in the most expensive area for any kind of labour. Oh, and I had 2 guys working here, but there was also another guy working for at least 1 of those days. The boiler that I have is a Potterton Performa 24 Eco HE whatever that means. And the thermostat that I've got is digital and one that you can move around. He said this would probably be better for me because all my walls have recently been re-plastered and painted, etc.0

Were they CORGI registered? If not, they were breaking the law, and you'll have trouble selling your house because you won't have the right paperwork.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

Yep, they were Corgi registered. He just came round again to collect the last of his stuff and filled in the paperwork for me. He's just got to get me a notification number and then he can send it off. They are both Corgi registered though because I've seen their cards and one of them works for a gas company.0

Corgi registration is only valid when you are working for the business that is registered, i.e. a British Gas fitter cannot legally work on the side, unless he has paid for his own personal registration as an individual (very unlikely). If the guy's registration card that he showed you had the name of the gas company he works for on it with him only as a named operative, then it will be worthless while he is working in your house for himself or anybody else.
If the main fitter was registered in his own right then it doesn't matter too much as he was there the whole time, his liability would cover it and he was technically supervising, but it's a point worth mentioning as people don't realise that employed operatives of gas companies that are registered cannot legally do work on the side under their company's registration, they will not be insured either under such circumstances.0 -

I'm not sure whether he is Corgi registered with a company or on his own. What I do know is that he used to work on his own, then got ill and then when he got better, he joined a company (but will soon be starting out on his own again).0
