You HAVE got a contract - a verbal contract is just as much a contract as one on paper.

erm, no, it really isn't. Apart from any other multitude of reasons- not heard the saying "a verbal contract is not worth the paper it's written on"?- the is absolutely no way to prove anything with a verbal contract. It's all he said she said, which is no use at all. And 6 pounds ph as a live out nanny is a joke. That is the rate a babysitter should be paid, not a nanny. Stand your ground, hand in your one months notice, and if she gets difficult then just leave, she'll have a world of trouble trying to prove you owe her anything.

When you leave, you can also offer to do babysitting at £x per hour. Name your own price.

That way you can still keep in contact with the little girl.

  • Once again thanks for all the advice, one person did point out that I lack assertiveness and its true I do hate confrontation, never really know how to put my point across without sounding agressive or I just end up in tears, still the decision has been made for me, yesterday my DH had a serious heart attack, luckily he had just got to work and as he works at the local hospital was treated immediately, however he's now in the cardiac ward receiving treatment and will obviously need caring for when he comes home.
I feel now that I will definately be leaving but as I already have another permanent job will not be unemployed completely, money will be tight but so be it, I would rather have my DH healthy again than extra money.

Best to you and I hope your husband make a good recovery.

Leave the nanny job now , and look after your husband far more important.

Then when you are ready, the other job you have ask for extra hours / shifts.

The mother of the child wants her cake and to eat it, I bet she is a woman 'who lunches' and pays her staff next to nothing!!

Juat wanted to say that I agree with all that has been said: the mother is taking the p***.

Give your notice and look after you hubby - I wish you all the best and hope that he gets well soon.

Good luck for the future. Sounds like you deserve some.
