You sure?
I'm no expert, but a quick googling seems to suggest that most granite surfaces are "sealed" and may require "resealing" periodically...ideally (according to one place I saw, anyway) annually...
Don't really care either way really, just interested...0 -

Amusing. Reminds me of a recent fancy dress party we went to. Mr P went as Captain America and spent the evening telling everyone he was 'impervious to alcohol' before duly passing out.0 -
Heaven knows! I've been reading articles for a couple of years about skips in London being full of people's granite worktops.Doozergirl wrote: »In favour of what

Granite is by nature a porous product and does need resealing because it has natural pitting and fissures if you want the same look go for quartz but it must be made on a breton spa machine and not a cheap chinese import try cimstone or luxore it has a uv filter in it as well.
shop around though and do your research. its worth it0 -
My granite has been down for nearly six years now. When it was first installed I was very careful and protective about it: regularly polished it, fretted if lemon juice fell on it etc. These days I'm quite laid back about it as it seems impervious to pretty much everything (including two kids and a husband)

It looks as good as it did after the install and I've never once regretted it. Mind you, I have an underseal sink and that did leak after fitting. I suspect the fitters weren't as methodical as they could have been.Debbie0 -
Some granite is more porous than others, we have a black granite which has been in about five years and looks as good as the day it was installed. We have never resealed it.
We got ours direct from a stonemasons that was cheaper than the kitchen shop by a considerable amount.
If you are getting a pale granite and worry about staining, try and get a sample and put some water on it and leave it for a bit and see if it leaves a darker mark.
Also some granites are not strictly granite although described as such as we were told by a geologist friend.0 -
i love my granite worktop.
but it does show smudges and handprints, its brill for a cleanaholic like me though.
i have the proper granite cleaner, but the best thing IMO is cheap polish.
i just put granite and the area i live in google and shopped about. i was very surprised how many people did granite near me.At last I have a signature.0 -
This may be a bit late but I've only just come across this thread.
Theres some great information on worksurface choices on http://www.kitchensfitted.co.uk
and for undermounted bowls I would suggest a look at http://www.astracast-sinks-taps.co.uk by far the cheapest prices I have found in my searches.
They are both run by the same guy, he seems to be a real guru in the kitchen industry0
