British Gas - Click energy 5

I done a price comparison a couple of weeks ago on our gas & electric. We were with British Gas but it was going to be cheaper for us to go onto the Click Energy 5 tariff. I didn't realise that they hadn't increased the prices on this tariff so signed up to it. I now find out that they are increasing it by quite a lot and I'm not too happy. I tried to call British Gas this morning but their phonelines are down all weekend. Does anybody know if I can get out of this without any fees or anything? I haven't received the paperwork yet so can't even read through it. Also, is anybody else in the same position as me? Do you know of a better tariff to switch to with BG?

As you were already with BG, you can call them up Monday and switch immediately to one of their other tariffs. (although that will probably be more expensive then click)
Or, if you want to switch supplier, you can do the switch immediately (but will take 4-6 weeks to take effect) and tell BG that so that you can enjoy their pre-increase prices until the switch takes place (assuming it doesn't take unreasonably long)
You shouldn't incur any fees either way"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
What I'm quite mad about is that our gas was fixed for the next 6 months. I can make some silly decisions sometimes. Do you have a cancellation period? And if you cancel within that time, does it revert to what it was?0

Last time we switched (few weeks ago but not with BG) we had a letter detailing the cancellation period.0 -

But a tariff change shouldn't take 4-6 weeks like a supplier change - it should be able to happen immediately I would have thought.
Unfortunately I doubt you will be able to go back to the fixed price deal you were on as it probably is no longer offered (not the exact same deal anyway)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... As it was just a tariff change with the same supplier, I'm not sure if you get a cooling off period (you do get one if you change supplier)

I got one when I (IMO stupidly) reacted to Martin's gmtv pleading and capped to Dec 2009 with BG (from Click 5). It took them an age to send the letter confirming the switch but clearly stated I had 7 days to change my mind with no penalty, so, of course, I did (this was one of the supposed 'good guy' caps as well)..The leccy increase would have worked out at 45%!Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Hi,
Has anyone (on Click Energy 5) actually been notified by British Gas that their tariff is going to increase?
Surely they cannot increase without notifying their customers??0 -
I would not panic at this point as I am not sureit has actually increased if you signed up before the 30th September. I am keeping my powder dry until I am told officially then I will ring and complain and transfer if required insisting I keep theold rate until I switch.
I learnt my lesson 6 months ago when it was said (on this site) that Npower had increased all prices. I had only just switched and it turned out that my tarif actually had not it saved me over £200 over the last 6 months and in fact only increased recently which is why I am in the process of going to Click 5 and still paying the old Npower rate. If BG have increased the tariff they should inform us and I will not ring them to find out!!0 -

Yes they can apply the increases from the date they specify, unless the customer gives notice to terminate the contract and move the supply elsewhere."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
