Thank you all so very much for your ideas - (I've clicked the individual thanks boxes for everyone) - of all the boards on here, I love this one most as people are so resourceful and friendly with it.:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:TSome people hear voices, some see invisible people. we made friends with a local tree surgeon. we have to cut the logs and transport them but more than enough for our needs.
Also, as others have said, keep an eye out for skips - we recently had a wall moved and I was amazed at all the joists - as long as its not treated wood its perfect0 -

We were lucky a few years back as our neighbour cut down a couple of huge sycamores - but of course we had to let them dry out and that was like looking at a chocolate bar whilst on a diet.
My OH has been looking around for skips - but all of a sudden there are none:eek:. It must be the credit crunch. We are tenacious though, as are all genuine moneysavers so we'll keep on looking.

It might be worthwhile posting on your local freecycle. Or this thread might help:

Hi Pink,
Pardon the innuendo in the title- but thanks to you I've got two sacks of wood - plus a four foot long tree trunk, for OH to pick up.
Here's a virtual drink to you  , I just wish it could have been a real one. :T:T:T:T
Hugs from me n' him :grouphug:,

Hi
My friend hasnt had to buy wood for 2 years. He saw some tree surgeons cutting down trees (obviously!) and he asked them what they were doing with them. They said they normally just take it to be destroyed so he offered them £20 to drop at his house and they did. They drop off to him about ever 3 months now and he spends a day splitting/cutting it up.

May be asking your local large nursery/garden centre, I know the one near as (Wyvedale I think) allows customers on request to take a few pallets, but not the newer ones as aparently they get sent back to their supplier....0

I thought this might be the best place to ask
does anyone have any ideas on where to get cheap or possibly free logs/wood for a multi-fuel burning stove?
Do you have a Jewson's locallyHere, they sell those huge sacks (the 1m cube ones) full of offcuts for about £10 - £20.
