I've got a cable and wireless router that I've had for a while....

How would I go about updating the firmware? Do I even need to do this?

Cheers dudes...

I would REALLY advise against updating router firmware. if it goes wrong (As it did with me once) you end up with a DEAD router!

As the other guy said, if it aint broke........
It wont improve ANYTHING if it already works. You only update firmware if it DOESNT work

    Still, your call.........

    haha

Sorry gt, I missread what you had put further up :p

We need to know which router you have first

I must say though, its a VERY rare router that NEEDS its firmware upgrading to actually work!
So that points to a duff router to me

Well if it was working before and isn't now, a firmware update won't fix it as that's not the problem.

It might fix it if the problem is with corrupted firmware...

OK OP - the process is usually just go to the manufacturer's site, support section, search for model, and download a firmware update tool which does it all for you.

What's the symptoms of the "broken" router?
