From hsbc.co.uk: "HSBC Bank plc is incorporated in England and Wales and established at 8 Canada Square, London E14 5HQ which is its Registered Office. HSBC Bank plc is regulated by the Financial Services Authority and is registered in the Financial Services Authority Register with the following Registration Number: 114216. HSBC Bank plc's registered VAT Number is GB 365684514 and its Company Register Number is 14259."

    So, yes.

HSBC is a global company with a large number of subsidiary companies in various countries. These local banks are registered with that country's equivalent of the FSA and each one is therefore able to offer the standard compensation for the country in question.

Although the company was originally the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Company, it's now simply HSBC...

Of course, with over $1,000,000,000,000.00 in retail deposits worldwide, the chance of HSBC running short of cash and having to be bailed out is fairly slim, though obviously this is only my opinion and I work for them, so take that as you will.

Damn fine bank HSBC. I took out an account with The Midland bank when I started my first job in 1965, and of course they got taken over by HSBC (can't remember when).

Never had an incorrect statement, never had a problem they couldn't resolve swiftly, and their online banking is the Dog's Danglies for reliability.

If HSBC ever goes under, the world will have come to an end 5 minutes beforehand.

  • I love HSBC. Their rates might not always set the world on fire, but if I was a millionaire, this is where I'd trust my dosh.

    Their internet banking is fantastic.

In all fairness, there are occasional problems with HSBC, but from what I've seen if you get hold of the right person you can usually get the problems solved in fairly short order.

concur with above. HSBC no longer stands for anything. It is just initials. It is the UKs biggest bank and one of the biggest in the world. I believe it is the third biggest UK company, behind BP and Royal Dutch Shell, although I havent checked for some time.

HSBC is one of the safest banks you can be with. If HSBC fail then you can forget about worrying about deposits. Start worrying about how you are going get your food, keep warm in winter and keep the thugs out when anarchy starts.

Well, as a Premier account customer I do get my own 'personal' account manager, the fragrant Jasmine, (no doubt shared with heaven knows how many others). :D She has always been on hand to sort out any little issues, but they've always been minor ones anyway. :T

Reminds me, I must check to make sure she hasn't been a victim of the round of job cuts HSBC announced recently. Life wouldn't be the same without 'my' Jasmine.
