Ignoring users

Im curious, why would anyone want to view a users "ignore" selection?, I think that should remain as private as who they PM.

The only feasable way we can rid MSE of abuse or Trolls IS to report them, leaving it to the Mods capable hands of debating whether the report is a valid or biased one.

MSE gets a lot of flack from Msers, yet the Irony of this is that it is Msers who are giving the abuse or flack in the Forums, NOT MSE. The golden rule of thumb, is the Moderators cannot have a prejudice or biased view in any thread, all they can do is clean the forums of abusive or potentially libellous posts.

I too will report abusive posts, and mse do remove them. Sometimes it takes a while, which can be frustrating, especially when the comments made were personal and unnecessary, yet remain for others to see, but, they are removed.

The best thing to do is report anything offensive, and not retaliate with your own venom, as that is when the other poster has got what they want. I think it's good to remember that just because another poster is acting like a silly little school child, doesn't mean we have to join them.

However, I also think that when a poster targets another repeatedly, and repeatedly makes nasty or unnecessary personal comments, even coming onto a thread purely to make a nasty personal comment, then more than just removing the comment should be done. I don't know if there is a warning system from mse to it's users about their behaviour. It shouldn't be necessary, but perhaps something that is needed?

Of course, the main thing is that everyone continues to enjoy mse. The abusive posts are removed, if they are reported, and I also think that in those situations, then if you ignore the poster trying to get a reaction, eventually they will either give up, or others will see how childish their behaviour is.

I don't agree they will go away, (I do largely ignore them), these people on vent relish being rude to new comers, and old posters alike. If the old posters ignore them then we all have to sit back and watch new comers having nasty comments being made against them. Not only that, there are so many of them they all feed off each other anyway.

The problem is that this abusive & rude behaviour seems to be tolerated on MSE. It must be, as they have been doing it for years - the same people, day in day out. They make an effort to avoid swear words, so their posts are not removed.

I'd like MSE Martin to come back and tell me he finds UKtim29's general attitude on this board to be welcome. To look at UKtim29's post history and see just how helpful this guy really is. And if he is an asset for MSE to have or if it would be better off banning him. I really don't understand why he and posters like him are allowed to remain on MSE

If he finds it 'unwelcome' the answer is simple, a warning followed by a ban.

The person mentioned by Wig ticks every box of the archetypal troll and causes a great deal of upset to people (which of course is his intention).

He seems to have made a full time career out of pouncing on nearly every thread on the Vent board, ridiculing and discrediting the OP, regardless of the circumstances, and peddles this weird notion that every retailer is completely blameless in every situation.

I'm not simply labelling him a troll because I disagree with everything he says. Far from it. There's nothing I enjoy more than a stimulating reasoned debate with someone who holds opposing views to myself. No, he's a troll because he's unreasonable in his methods of argument. He just throws slurs around, ignores pertinent facts and comes up with his own bizarre conspiracy theories which he is never able to support with fact.

Whenever a thread has run to several pages and he's completely out of his intellectual depth in an unwinnable argument, his last resort is always to smear the OP as a liar, along the lines of "the OP has probably invented this story anyway". I find this offensive, and so do the numerous people he has branded as liars without the slightest shred of evidence, simply because he knows no other way to win his argument.

(Amusingly, he even alleged that Which magazine falsified the findings of their reports and "probably didn't do any research at all" simply because he couldn't bear to accept the findings of one of their reports).

But his rude and offensive nature is the real problem here. I've seen him drive away dozens of people who have simply come to MSE to ask for advice. The examples provided above by Wig are the tip of the iceberg.

That's why I agree with Wig that he should be warned and then banned.

Much as Im against the naming and shaming game, Im in total agreemant with Wig n taxiphil on this TROLL, I have no doubt his aliases will be here soon, i have a list of 5 Trolls that instill filth on the threads, regular trolls and WELL KNOWN. Its my guess even the MODS know the Trolls, I think deleting a members posts over n over again, isnt helping to the easier option of "Ive deleted an endless list of this Trolls posts - time to delete him\her"

I've even seen him say the OP "is a liar and a thief" I wanted to quote the OP from that thread, she said a very similar comment to the quotes of OPs I listed in the previous post. However I could not find the thread, and I remembered that this particular OP was a regular MSE on other boards, and that she knew how to ask for her thread to be deleted, hence, that whole thread was deleted, so I can't quote it.

I still hope MSE Martin comes back and gives his view on UKtim29 and why he has not been banned. MSE Martin said we should report trollish behaviour, I have done that here in public.

Much as I understand your frustration Wig, you really can't expect Martin or any of his team to give any view on a particular user.

Personally I agree that the Vent board is somewhere that is becoming increasingly nasty and all you can do is keep reporting the posts and you can be sure that the team will discuss the problem(s).
