UPVC Windows

I am looking to replace the windows and doors in my home a large five bedroom house. I am expecting the cost to be quite high but want to ensure I get good quality.

Would it be better to get quotes from the likes of Everest, Safestyle and Anglian or look to local independant fitters.

This is a once only cost so I dont want to make mistakes so does anyone have opinions or experience of the companies mentioned.

If I couldn't get a recommendation from a friend/neighbour (and I didn't already work in this field and know a dozen good companies round here) I'd be looking for a local firm big enough to have its own showroom - not one in a lock-up though. Look for a conservatory company (they all also do window replacements) with a proper showroom - they have invested in being there and intend to stick around for a while.

I'd avoid the ones with an industrial unit and roller shutter door which they open to reveal a conservtory village. There are some good ones of this type but all the dodgy companies I know work out of such places.

I asked our neighbour, they used Everest and appear satisfied. They paid around £12k for a smaller four bedroom house, ours is five bedrooms with two large french doors and so would be much more.

What people are trying to tell you is that by using a local company you will not necessarily have to pay a lot more. £12k seems a lot of money to me for a four bed house. You have nothing to lose by getting local quotes, and you might be pleasantly surprised.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

    How much?

We've just paid £3000 for ten windows of our four bed which are wood effect, leaded, with dummy sashes on the non-opening windows and chrome furniture. Admittedly it's not all our windows but we have two or three windows in every room of our house and I could do the rest for the same again.

£12,000 would build me an extension to match some more windows! Small independent firms rock! Do try and get yourself a recommendation, you might get a good deal locally.
