Student loans company "sold debt" to Thesis Servicing Ltd

Well the loan has not been closed due to this admin charge which has been applied to the account. Best to contact Thesis and ask them directly.
Student Loans can now be added to your credit file if you do not get it sorted.
That's good to know, don't want to affect my rating.
I think you're missing my point though. The loan was closed 5.5 years ago when I paid it off. If it wasn't closed I'd have carried on receiving statements each year to show I still owe something. I haven't received anything for 5.5 years until Thesis randomly write to me to say I owe them money for taking on my loan! Thesis have added the charge for taking over my loan. But there was no loan for them to take over. I have contacted them and they couldn't explain it to me. I have to write to them to get them to investigate it for me.0 -
The credit report information actually applies to people who are still paying their loans and are in arrears. SLC have said they will contact them and you then have 28 days to reply before you're marked as a non-payer on your credit report.
Foxxx, I completely agree with you that 5 and a half years is plenty of time for you to have been contacted about an outstanding amount and if you paid the settlement fee, that should really be it. Annoying though it is, I would definitely write to them and state your case and I'd copy in SLC too. It seems very odd to me that they would come to you for any amount when the loan was paid before it was sold. Sounds like an admin error at their end to me...0 -
Foxx - Have you moved at all in 5.5 years? If so have you ever updated your address with SLC or Thesis? If not they may have been trying to contact you and had returned mail and they have finally found your new address.0

Been at same address for last 8 years so shouldn't be a problem contacting me. This is the first letter I've ever received from Thesis. All seems odd to me.0 -

Am going to ring SLC on Monday, closed at weekends so not been able to speak to them. I'm putting a letter together to send to Thesis. Seems to me to be a strange mistake. I just wondered if others have had this or if I'm just unlucky!! The annoying thing is that I have to spend my time sorting out their mistake as opposed to me telling them to get back to me with some proof of me owing them anything. They told me to proove to them it's an error!!0 -
Hi,
I'm very concerned about the things I've been hearing about student loans recently.... As a graduate myself with a large student loan to pay back (into double figures as I had to put myself through uni without parental assistance..) I'm worried that the government seems to have decided to sell off the student loans debt book. Apparently, the government has decided that student loans are not a part of its valuable service so are going to sell our debt off to the private sector. I hope I'm not the only one worried by this????

riverbird with the new style loans, student loans will have to continue to manage the loan as HMRC will not be willing to pay different people different money based on national insurance numbers. Best solution is Student Loans sell the loan book to 3rd party but will still be responsible for acting as loan administrator. All letters and paperwork will be issued by SLC.
This is old news as it was announced in the budget report 2 years, if i remember correctly, and the act of parliament (Sale of Student Loans) has past through parliament. it will be a few years before they can actually sell the loans for a profit.0 -
I took a student loan out in 2005.
You dont pay anything until you earn at least 15k per annum. Plus gets written of when I reach aged 65 anyway.
Basically free money to an extent. just stay within the law regarding telling them where you live an dhow much money you earn every april, as you should get a letter from them.
I checked this on this website and at my rate I wont pay it all back lol.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

I'm a bit mystified by Thesis Servicing. I received a letter from them regarding my student loans from 94, 95 and 96 which I paid off in full a few years ago. They say they have taken over my loans and I have a migrated balance of £29.36.
How can I have any balance if I paid all these loans off?!!
When exactly did Thesis take over from SLC?
I rang them to tell them there was no loan anymore and they said I have to write to them so they can investigate this. They said it is an admin fee.
Has anyone else had this happen to them? It sounds very dodgy to me, I wonder how many people have received this letter for old loans and have just paid it?
I keep records for 2-3 years before shredding so I don't have my old loan statements showing it was paid off in full anymore. Don't suppose SLC will have these either. Only thing I'd have if bank keeps records going back that far is all my direct debits to SLC and the final balance payment when I paid off the last bit in full.
Should I just ignore it? It's only a small amount but its the principle of it. I shouldn't owe anyone anything!
new here but have lurked occasionally. I had the same thing happen - they were asking for £50. I rang them about it and they said they would check, rang SLC and they didn't know where this amount had come from etc - rang back Thesis said I had had a letter 7 years ago stating I had repaid loans and was told that there were "a lot of people in the same position" and it was an "admin charge" SLC had placed on some accounts. After another week had a letter from them saying there was nothing to pay.
So question them and ask for the paperwork proving you owe them the money. I had my letter in October this year, hope this helps you somewhat!
