Any other experiences with Thesis / Link?

They appeared to have reduced my monthly payment without me requesting that
  • I've just had my first run in with them today... I came home to two voicemail messages telling me I had to ring back a company and quote a reference number, even though I couldn't even make out the name of the firm they were quoting! When I called back to check, they wanted personal details for security clearance, which I refused until I knew who they were. Apparently they were unable to tell me anything other than the company name - wouldn't even tell me what they did! I only found out by checking online before I called back again.
On speaking to an operator, she informed me I'm over £80 in arrears, (I'm not - I've always paid my monthly payments in one lump sum to cover April to April) and that they want to work out a new repayment schedule! I informed her I've already made a lump sum payment to Student Loans to cover the full amount and she said that because they've only bought one of my loans, (?!) they now require additional payments.
I'm absolutely livid about this - not only am I annoyed that I wasn't even informed of the sale of my loan, but I'm now going to have to find money I simply don't have and I'm also concerned my credit record will have been tarnished through no fault of my own.
Does anyone know what I can do to sort this out - is it possible to insist my loan go back to Student Loans?! I thought they were bad, but they seem to be the lesser of two evils.....

  • Hi

If you are paying them back as agreed, there should be no other company involved.

It looks like student loans have sold the loans to a debt recovery service, and they are becoming heavy handed.

Check this out and don't pay a penny more until you resolve who you actually owe the money to..Then pay it back!

The SLC should have informed you by letter of any sale/transfer. I had a letter from them for some of mine.

Contact the SLC to confirm legitimacy.

  • Hi there guys..wonder if any of you in this position?

Have several pre 1998 student loans, have deferred each year by filling out the declaration ....unitl

6 mths ago I moved house and amidst the chaos forgot to inform the student loans company i'd moved/changed address, thus haven't filled in declaration for deferment for this year!
The parents have now been on the phone this morning saying some company calling themselves thesis have been on the phone to them asking of my whereabouts. They wouldn't tell the folks what it was in relation to ..i've only via this forum discovered who/what thesis are & now i'm fretting about who to call ..student loans company with new address details & attempt to negotiate deferment or this thesis collection agency ..any advice?

I was lucky had a pre 98 student loan, didnt find me for over 6 yrs so got away with it.

But if you havent deffered for this year i think you may have a problem doing it, ring them directly, ignore any company acting on thier behalf
    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.

Deferment is done through the SLC still, even if Thesis have taken over the loans.

You can still defer for the remainder of this year, and the SLC will normally backdate deferment by 3 months.

So get on to it ASAP. That will minimise the arrears you will now be liable for.
