  • I am surprised nobody has mentioned Clarks Village - a great combo of high street with a few designer - a little way out of london, but great for a couple of days perhaps.
This and the swindon one definately - well they always seem to make me open my purse!

The York outlet is pretty close to me, always enjoy a visit there but Cheshire Oaks is the Daddy!

i was in swindon on the weekend, im from london so it is a drie

first thing, do not comapr to america, cos if you do then you wont buy anything..

swindon was very good, alot of bargain to be had..my only concern was the shops were becoming good then it just ended..so not that great deal of shop but there is a sufficient amoutn of shopping to be done there

    avoid bicester.

I live in the Midlands, so have done most that you mention. I prefer Cheshire Oaks to Swindon.
Bicester is a waste of time, very expensive and great if you are a size 10!
My other suggestion would be Darbyshire, within a short drive of each other there is a MacArthur Glen Outlet (with M&S) at Mansfield; Peak Village at Romsley, De Bradelei at Belpher, also several smaller factory shops, and outlet shops at a Mill near Matlock that I can't remember the name of!

Just in case anyone is searching there are a few typos here ... Peak Village is at Rowsley and De Bradelei at Belper!

The one at Matlock is Masson Mill and I like it, although the top floor is a bit more designery.

I went to the Bicester one last Sunday (very, very busy there!). Main reason for going was for Kipling bags, which I got (2 of!), and I also enjoyed the bookshop, but the rest wasn't really for me. It was on the way to somewhere else, though. Don't think I'd bother with a special trip there from London.

  • Another question! Where is the most convenient outlet to either Brighton or Gatwick airport? Will be there next month & just wondering if I can get in a bit of shopping.

    There isn't.

Do you have transport or are you relying on public transport?

Brighton itself is a nice place to shop, the lanes have lots of interesting & pretty shops.

From Gatwick your best bet it Crawley (not as good as Brighton) & just the usual big town shopping centre.

If you have transport then Bluewater, M23 to M25 & you're there in 40 mins (or less) from Gatwick.

Ashford in Kent & Street in Somerset & I believe there is one in Portsmouth in Hampshire are (AFAIK) the ONLY outlets in the south east & none of them are handy from Gatwick or Brighton (but if you had a car the Ashford & Portsmouth are do-able from Brighton).
