Best value outlet centre in UK, for 'normal'/not designer gear?

Hi all,

I live in Ireland, and am considering making a trip to the UK before Xmas to do some shopping. I have a friend living in London so would probably combine the shopping with a visit also.

I had looked at Bicester but notice from the other thread that it is mainly designer gear, which I'm not majorly interested in.

What is the best outlet centre for good value in the UK? Looking for shops like Levis, Lee Cooper, Musto, sports shops, maybe M&S, Next etc.

Thanks!

Have a look at the Swindon Outlet Centre, I am not sure if it is the best, but it is good and is also close to London

Hatfield Galleria is on the A1 a few miles north of the M25, Its a bit more down to earth than Bicester. There is a M&S outlet, TKMax, lots of shoes and clothes, luggage, sport and outdoor shops books plus a big cinema with a choice of restaurants.

Bicester is just very expensive and not for the cost-conscious whether times are good or bad. I wasn't too impressed with Cheshire Oaks either, mainly because nothing screamed "buy me". McArthur Glen may be a better choce, I have found some real bargains there.

In general it is a good time to come to the UK as sterling is doing so poorly against the Euro.

    Sorry MrsE,
Its not very close and quite different to Bicester but would be handy for someone coming up out of London. I live just up the road from it and they annoyed me when they started charging for parking so I dont go there for just for a browse anymore. I do go there for my BIG shoes though!

In East London, there's 2 small retail parks very close to each other. It's in Beckton-one is called Gallions Reach http://www.gallions-reach.co.uk/ and the other is Beckton Triangle retail park. They aren't outlet parks, but the 2nd one has a Next outlet and Boots outlet. There are buses there from Ilford (zone 4), but it's probably a lot easier by car (off A406 North Circular, by A13). Have fun shopping!

  • Swindon McArthur Glen is the one for me! Bicester is very OTT and not useful for day to day purchases. Been to Portsmouth Gun Wharf as well and wasn't that taken with it; nice to have a drink at the quayside bars though (well, in summer anyway)
