Hello everyone, my son purchased a brand new Harley about three months ago. He rode it around town when the sun was out [not often then] and on a rather long journey to Alicante and back. Two weeks ago the clutch went and so he contacted place he got it and they have said basically tough that will be £400 sir.
Can this be correct?
Thanks

Not in my book it wouldnt be. Surely its still under warranty and if the clutch is goosed three months in,it couldnt have been much good in the first place unless he abused it? Tell him to get a Jap bike.0

Don't think he abused it although who knows. As far as shop is concerned he has to pay. Its brand new so is it possible that the clutch was faulty when he bought it then?
Thanks0 -
depends how he rides, could of been slipping the clutch like a mofo!
i would complain to HQ if i were you0 -
lol...............He is a bit of a mofo but I better not say that to him eh? But seriously he flys planes so I hope he knows what he's doing. I think HQ is the way to go. Thanks very much0

I wonder if the crafty sods count the clutch as a "consumable," like brake pads, etc., and therefore exempt them from the guarantee. Whichever way you look at it, its a pretty poor show, and I can't imagine Harleys being too happy about it. I'd definitely escalate it, to the top if necessary, even if it is technically not covered.0

My BMW bike has 63,000 on the clock and still has the original clutch after six years. I'd say he has a very strong case against the dealer and HD. Three months is ridiculous.0

id have thought it would be fair for them at least to say they'l strip and inspect it
if its a manf fault then it should be warrenty , if it looks like abuse then he pays
youd have to abuse it badly to kill it so fast0 -
Hi everyone, sorry for delay in repying. Spoke to my lad again last night to ask him if he's thrashed the thing. He says that the clutch cable is in A1 condition according to AA who picked him up. He has their report. Garage are just saying that clutch has gone. Its been suggested by an engineer that maybe they have an old Harley in that needs a new clutch and they are hoping my lad is that stupid he'll pay for it. Crafty sods.0
