Buying a new printer?

I recently needed to buy a new printer, having used Epson for several years, I bought another one.
Simple?
I bought one from Currys, took it back to our office, and needed to type an A4 envelope.
The envelope would not fit into the paper feeder on the machine! All Epson printers we have in our office allow for the adjustment of the feeder.... not any more!
I returned it to Currys who told me that every printer now will ONLY print A4 paper size, but do not allow for the slightly larger A4 envelope, therefore I will have to mess about trying to print labels out instead, and, of course, I cannot print in larger type direct onto the envelope either!
Currys refused a refund as they sold me an A4 printer, which, after all, is correct!
Apparently, all printers are now strictly A4, can anyone explain to me why this has happened?

Not much help but I have an epson r300 and it allows me to print larger than A4. So would be ok for A4 envelopes.0

My epson C46 allows paper larger than A4 by about 1 inch
AFAIK most new printers will still allow you to go larger than A4, exactly like they used to.
Acording to the epson site all epson printers go up to at least letter size, 1/2 cm wider than A4.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. C84 don't though. The paper feed extends by 1/4" but thats often not enough.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

The Canon IP 3/4000 series will certainly allow you to print on almost any size envelope. There is even a device so that you can print cd labels.0

Silly question but wont it print lengthways using portrait instead of landscape????I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Thanks for your replies.
The printer is an Epson Stylus Photo R300 and it was a standard foolscap A4
envelope, I tried it again today, just to make sure, and there is no way that it will fit.Filiss0 -
Well you surprised me. Had to get an envelope to try.
I have an R300 which in all respects is a great little printer but the paper guide only goes about 7 or 8mm larger than A4. No where near enough for A4 envelopes. Farcical!
But the envelopes I have, have plenty of room for A4 and I'm wondering now if there are envelopes that are a tighter fit for A4 sheets.0 -
One of my printers is an R200 (basically same as the R300) and I can put A4 envelopes into it ... I have just wasted an envelope to make sure it works and it printed fine. You do however have to adjust the paper guide to the extreme edge. Just for total clarity, my A4 envelope is exactly 220mm across.
