Violent crime fell this year. It seems peoples perceptions are out of line with reality.

On radio yesterday it said Iceland's population is so fed up with the fate of their currency that a majority (you'd have to check the veracity of any poll) want to adopt the Euro and/or join the EU (the two things not being synonymous of course)

Dig around and even official statistics show 8 out of the last 10 years have seen an increase in violent crime.Violent crime fell this year. It seems peoples perceptions are out of line with reality.

People have so little faith in the police they don't report crime - therefore numerous crimes no longer get recorded as official statistics.0 -
>The people who run the show know this<
Yep, that's why they are accelerating to create a Police State of ID cards, pervasive surveillance, internet and calls logged into a snoopers database, all children on the national database, DNA taken at every opportunity, freedom-of-speech suspended as that's wicked and 'racist' etc. Anything goes as of course its all to 'protect the little children'.
The elite know that as long as the sheeple get Corrie on the telly and supplied with footie, booze, ciggies, Page 3 'stunnas' and their giro they'll never wake up to the abolition of England.0 -
I think the prevalence of crime in the media, makes us all think it's worse than it is. Perhaps I'm just naive, or a hopeless optimist, or just lucky, but I don't witness crime, or be a victim of crime, on a regular basis.
Amcluesent - your post is scarily reminiscent of Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World". Soma, anyone?Target Cash Net Worth: £25K by January 2012

You were once in their shoes, BUT in probably the best times in history to be a teenager.
Yes it was the best time, and the baby boomers have so far been a lucky generation for a number of reasons.
Clearly not all young people are disturbed, but it appears that a substantial proportion are, as is manifested in binge drinking, drugs, perceived lack of respect, questionable moral standards, violent crime, f e c k less behaviour, short-termism etc. I put it down to the very poor quality of life in this country, especially for many of the young. They suffer from a generally poor state education system and slender or non-existent job propects, and find themselves living in an extremely poorly governed, overcrowded island which has no discernable ethos any more and which just drifts from one real or imaginary crisis to another. This does not excuse or justify binge drinking etc, but I can see why some young people do it. It's an escape and a distraction from the unpleasant reality of life in Blair's Britain.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

You're describing an episode of Jeremy Kyle.
Again, perhaps I'm just lucky. But I'm 21 years old, therefore my friends are between 18 and 30 ish. None of what you describe applies for any of them. I'm not from a rich area, indeed it's school is classed as being in an economically deprived area. The people I know are hard working, honest, respectful, well educated, decent people with jobs. I am sure it is the minority you are describing.Target Cash Net Worth: £25K by January 2012
