I've got an American Express Platinum Cashback card which has an 01273 customer service line. But then the APR's higher so it's almost a case of you get what you pay for. I actually pay it off in full each month so it doesn't cost me anything but it pays 1.5% cashback (I manage to put around £500/£600 a month on it) so for me it's well worth it.0 -
Obviously you.
At 31? It appears you must still be going through puberty.
So you expect them to do everything for free then? Lets hope you're not let near the running of any business, it would go bust in minutes!
Also known as free-loaders.
Bit deluded aren't you. Would you like me to explain to you how to use the quote function so it comes out in the correct format?
Good God – only 31 – you are younger than me!!!! You must have had one hell of a long paper round .
As to running a business – been there, done that, made a profit and retired very early, without ever using a rip-off number, bet you struggle to run a bath :rotfl:.
Just for the record, you are in favour of conglomerates ripping off their customers, you’re in favour of 0845/0870 numbers and you agree with exploitation of the Third World with cheap labour call centres. Was it down to nature or nurture in your case?
Tell you what though – teach me how to use the quote function – then like you, I can pick and choose which bits I reply to :rotfl:. In return I’ll teach you how to use smilies so you can lighten up a nd save yourself a heart attack .
Not to worry though - everybody has to have a hobby :dance::dance:

Capital One have been using 0845 numbers for a while, how long have you been a customer?.
Unfortunately for a lot longer than they've been using these numbers - customer loyalty counts for nothing it seems.
Thanks to the ardent money savers who've replied though I know now how to call them on 0115 993 8002 and thanks to those on this useful site: http://www.saynoto0870.com/ I found that if you prefix it with 141 they can't tell where you are calling from :T.

I've no objection, in the spirit of moneysaving, to using saynoto and getting cheaper rates, but the above is nonsense. Yes, companies make more money from 0845/0870 than they would for local rate numbers, but just because they choose to doesn't mean they're ripping anyone off. Having staff and premises to provide customer services isn't free. Some companies may load this cost into the price of the product up front, others may charge you on demand, but you'll pay either way.Just for the record, you are in favour of conglomerates ripping off their customers, you’re in favour of 0845/0870 numbers and you agree with exploitation of the Third World with cheap labour call centres.
And how are outsourced call centres "exploitation of the third world with cheap labour"? Staff are usually paid very well in local terms, and many are filled with graduates.0 -

Have you worked in one? A very good friend gave up her post as a trainer in one of these places because of the way the local staff were paid and treated and I for one applaud her for it. :TSome people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

Not directly but I do have some experience of them. Yes of course there'll be good and bad ones as with any industry, but many are a very attractive employer to the local community and there's a competitive market where these places congregate.Have you worked in one?
Saying thay because a company uses 0870 numbers they exploit third world countries (and many would dispute India, Pakistan and South Africa to name three common ones are third world countries anyway) is nonsensical.
Nearly there on that quote function BTW

I take on board what you're saying, just the way some people react makes you wonder if they ever bother to look at the front page of this site: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/. About half way down there's a box with a pic of :money: in it, where he puts the purpose of this site very succinctly. I'd have thought there's a simple answer for those who don't agree with his sentiments - but sometimes ..................:wall:, you know what I mean .
Re the quote thing - good to see someone with a sense of humour
- but I still prefer the different coloured inks - otherwise it looks like I'm ignoring someone's salient points

Unfortunately for a lot longer than they've been using these numbers - customer loyalty counts for nothing it seems.
But you are being loyal to a company you say are ripping you off, why?
You complain that the call centre staff are all outside the UK, but then boast about finding a way to call them cheaper?
My time is valuable, I use companies that offer good customer service, even if they use 'rip off' phone numbers, as the time spent on the phone is a lot less.0 -

No I'm happily self employed running my own business at home!;)and you agree with exploitation of the Third World with cheap labour call centres.
You haven't got a clue have you. The people that work there take the jobs because many earn as much as 3 times more than they could otherwise earn in their own countries.
Did you think they had a gun held at their heads and were told they have to work there or get shot? Why do you think they do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!And how are outsourced call centres "exploitation of the third world with cheap labour"? Ah, so that's why you've got so much time on your hands? Maybe it's that 0845 number you're using :rotfl:.Did you think they had a gun held at their heads and were told they have to work there or get shot? Why do you think they do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You really are having a laugh here aren't you? Go on, take a wild guess:whistle: .
