What you are doing seems OK. Could be a problem with the disc(s). Have you tried a CD-R disc? Nearly all the problems I have had burning CD or DVD have been with CD-RW discs.

If you suspect the drive to be faulty it is not worth repairing. New drive will be cheaper. Even the latest DVD drives only cost around £30.

Are you sure you have a writer or is it just a CDROM.....

Also right click a picture and choose properties and see if you have to unblock it
or see if it is Read Only..... ;)

You can find demo's of nero here
    http://www.nero.com/eng/Downloads.html

driverguide has loads of drivers even those out of date
its free to join.I've used them for years.

It could be a format problem as already mentioned.
We have 4 PC's in this house and not all can read each others written cd's as some use a different format to others. This mainly seems to be a problem with CDRW .
if you like nero you can get it cheaply from savapoint

The loyalty gifts are free and you pay for delivery, you can only order one at a time though.
roxio media creator is another good prog of the same type(my DS has this for his comp)
  • I once tried using Windows XP's built-in CD burning and found it to be pretty crap. Use a dedicated piece of software like Nero.

  • Thanks Guys,

Will try all that you have suggested - failing that I think I will buy new RW !!!
