Help!!! Questions about CD RW

Hi,

I hope someone out there may be able to help me! :o

I have a CD RW and I am trying to save my digital photos onto a CD but it won't let me!

The CD is new (700MB, so should store quite alot of photos??) yet when I even try to save even one photo the wizard says that my disc is full??

I have checked the properties of the disc in 'My Computer' and it says the CD has all 700MB of space and the hardware itself working properly.

I am really confused

Is my RW broken?? If so are they expensive to replace/repair and what are my options?

Really appriciate any advice and help

Thanks :p

  • could be your disk is faulty or it has already been written on.

it wouldnt be the first time i have opened a brand new disc to find the same problem.

put the disk in the drive and try to play it.
if there is anything on it it will show up.

it is also possible that on write once disks you may only save 1 photo with the intention of adding more later but the program used will create a barrier stopping any further additions and this will be on the disk and not the computer.

  • Hi fatblokexl,

Thanks for your help. I have tried another disc - I have bought a pack of 10. Could they all be faulty? There is definetly nothing on the disc. I have also just tried saving one photo with no luck!

Any other suggestions would be gratefully recieved!

    Thank you

could be the driver for the cd drive has become corrupt.
Have you got nero with it? I have found sometimes that it needs reinstalling.

Can you explain how you are trying to save to the CD RW? What program are you using. Also, what is the operating system on the computer?
  • Hi Culpepper,

The computer was given to me by my Aunt, so I have no discs or anything with it. It has Windows XP, so would it need a driver? Can you tell what nero is? (sorry I am so untechie!!!)

If it does need a driver re-installing can I access another from somewhere?

    Thank you
  • Hi Scotty,

I hope this is the information that you are asking for!!???

I Have Windows XP (is this the operating system??) and I am using Zoombrowser EX to store my digital photo's onto my computer.

I then go into My pictures on my C drive and on the left hand side there is an option to save files to CD. This then makes temporary files on the C drive and again I click to save to CD. It then takes me through a wizard - this is where it all stops as is says the disc is full!

    I hope this makes sense,

    Thank you

It could be the that the disc is preformated for DirectCD / InCd / some other packet writing Cd program, rare but it happens.

Try formatting the disc and see if that helps.

CD-RW's fall into different speed types (Standard 1x-4x, High speed 4x-10x, Ultra high speed - higher again). Not all drives support all speed types, particularly if you have an old writer.

Please post back with the information on your CD writer and the disc brand please.

  • What is the make of the CD writer? if it is an old model there can be a probability of it not recognising the new disks

What you are doing seems OK. Could be a problem with the disc(s). Have you tried a CD-R disc? Nearly all the problems I have had burning CD or DVD have been with CD-RW discs.

If you suspect the drive to be faulty it is not worth repairing. New drive will be cheaper. Even the latest DVD drives only cost around £30.

Are you sure you have a writer or is it just a CDROM.....

Also right click a picture and choose properties and see if you have to unblock it
or see if it is Read Only.....
