This makes a nice lemon cordial which you dilute with water. It will keep for a week or so in the fridge or you can freeze it. I try to keep some in the freezer in the winter as it is brilliant if you have a cold or flu.
3 lemons-unwaxed if possible
1lb granualated sugar
1 oz citric acid
1 pint boiling water
Remove skin from lemons with potato peeler.Squeeze out juice. Put peel, juice, sugar and citric acid in large jug or bowl. Pour over boiling water. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Leave to cool. Strain and bottle.0 -
Where do you get the citric acid from? I have seen it for sale on soap making websites but presume it isn't the sort you can use :think:GC 2023 June £72/500 NSDs 1/100

Our local chemist sells it, so do Wilkinsons and some health food shops-you often have to ask for it as I believe that drug addicts use it so be prepared to be quizzed as to why you want it!0

Thanks for the info and advice, will ask at our local chemist - I had the same problem a while ago in boots when I wanted to buy bicarb in bulk! When I told them it was for cleaning they gave me the funniest look :rotfl:apparently that can also be used for drugs :eek:GC 2023 June £72/500 NSDs 1/100

Just wanted to share this recipe as it's easy, cheap and tastes good. You can make 1.5 pints for about 30p so it's saving me a few pound a week in the hot weather and less heavy bottles to get home from the store on the bus too
You do need a reasonably powerful blender with glass goblet (I'm using a kenwood chef for this) and a freezer to make ice cubes.
Put a whole lemon (thin skinned ones are best) in the blender, a handful of ice cubes (about six large ones), two level tablespoons of sugar and then fill up to the 1.5 pint level. Blend for about 30-60 seconds on full power, pour through a sieve and serve with some more ice cubes and slices of lemon.0 -
Thank you Ben84. I shall try this soon. Thanks for sharing, SilverOutside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

I used to mae this as a child. Occassionally we would throw in a peeled apple orange as wellMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0

Sounds lovely, think I will try ageing a bit of fresh ginger to mine. Will report back when I've tried it.0
