Drea obviously as you can tell your post is attracting all the diehard runners that frequent MSE

I actually posted because I have bought good running shoes for about £20-25 from the websites I mentioned. Having once (in my v limited running career!) had knee problems, changing to shoes which suit my feet cured it immmediately. I've never bought expensive shoes, but why not get the best at a low price??

Okay here we go, these are proper running shoes AND cheap :D Only £3 postage so works out at £20 overall.

    Any good?

    Although the sizes confuse me...

    When did I say I couldn't afford £20?
I didn't realise that you did say this.

I do believe I said that that WAS the price I was looking for...
Thats why i suggested sneakily using an expert shop to find what type of shoe is best for you then buying previous years proper running shoes at £20 from elsewhere.

It looks as though you may be having an off day or misinterpreting what people are saying. People on here are concerned that as a new runner, you may not be aware of the different types of shoe and their suitability. If your prepared to spend your precious money and cant afford to buy the wrong shoe, the emphasis here is to get a shoe that suits YOU within your budget, and not simply get any running shoe within budget. The latter may cost you more in the long run!

I note than you have now found some shoes. Let's hope you need a shoe of this description and fit.

I have been contemplating starting running - and need new trainers for the gym. Where is the best place to get trainers from? Do JJB and JD sports have a good selection and usually staff who can help? or do I need to go elsewhere.

    Many thanks
    Angela.

I did realise I was a bit off with that reply. Feel a bit like I'm having to repeat over and over how poor I am :p

I did the wet foot test that was posted, I'm 'normal'. But yes your right, there are a lot out there and I haven't a clue what I'm looking for :o I was just trying to get something cheap.

Evening Drea:D Guess what, the old girl Grebe used to run:eek: I know, it sure is a shocker:rotfl:
I agree with andrewmoorcroft, although you do not need to spend molto pounds on shoes, you do need ones that are fit for purpose, not fit to look at. No point in looking fab if you are limping in agony with shin splints and blisters. I am a New Balance girl, but that's only because I tend to pronate and they did ones that suited me to a tee.
Go to a good running shoe retailer, I always trusted Grieves, are they still on the go?
They will recommend that you need a certain type of trainer just by watching how you walk and looking at the shoes you are wearing to see where they are worn most on the sole and heel.
Then you just go and find the ones they recommend at best price elsewhere.

Well your a dark horse aren't you ;)

Look at the shoes I'm wearing? Oh dear, there IS no padding on the heel anymore on the trainers I wear, it'd be embarrassing :rotfl:

You do not need to show the trainers you wear, all of your footwear will show what is happening when you walk or run.

So would my work shoes be okay? Just your typical black flat shoes, I would probably go to a shop after work.

    Eek, I just haven't got a clue!

Perfect, remember socks are as important, good running socks have no seams, so no nasty bits to blister your tiny toes and heels on, plus you can buy stuff that you rub on your feet at bits that might blister that stops the friction that is one of the causes of blistering, I cannot remember the name of it, it's like a silicone stick that works like magic. Cor I fair miss running:(
