I am just wondering what people's situation is. I have roughly £12.50 per week after my accommodation has been paid. Has there possibly been error? To say its unworkable is being generous..

Does your accommodation include food? Have you chosen somewhere expensive? Did you budget properly?

My friends who had the basic loan (ie they didn't get anything extra income assessed) have about £8 a week left over after accommodation.
I have £35 and other money from an academic bursary.0 -
My loan is nearly £200 a month less than the cost of my accomodation, never mind travel, food, uni books, gas and electricity, having any sort of social life...
I don't live in a fancy flat either, flatsharing as well.

Accommodation = £4442 (includes bills but not food)

I feel relatively rich - my private rented flat share is cheap for London (crap area and crap flat though - currently bed bug infested! and might have to move soon) but at the moment it's £90 per week inclusive of bills (very rare) and I pay for broadband myself (through mobile deal so very low)
comes to 4680 for the year (I'm a mature student so I live here permanently)
I'm also in London so I do get the max loan and grant which comes to £8,000.
obviously all needs paying back but I wouldn't have been able to study full time without this amount - far too scary!
I will be working too - I've recently discovered two relatives online in the last year otherwise no family... no useful xmas prezzies for me, lol
I'll also get a £310 bursary from my Uni - don't know when but they sent a letter saying so - handy for books (still don't have a book list or timetable! *sigh* apprently get that next week)
thankfully not so bad really - wish I didn't need dental work though as I would prefer to spend my money on more exciting things than fillings!
still scary, not having a monthly wage as such... but I plan to keep the loan etc in the student account and use my normal account to have a monthly amount deposited to live off (plus my wages)Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later date
now at Uni as a Mature student -update: now has a First Class BA!0 -

Have you thought about getting a job? I worked out recently that my loan works out at roughly £66 per week, i pay £70 a week for accomadation - fairly cheap where i am. The result = like many other students i have to get a job to support myself.
The trouble is the student loan company assume that if your parents are on a high income then they can afford to support you (they dont bother considering their other outgoings) and therefore like me - only get the basic loan.
But working is good - something extra to put on your CV, get to meet even more new people, and if its a job you enjoy it can be good fun!Biggest Loser Weight Loss: 13 / 20 lb0 -
