Would your father consider selling his cab and going and working in Tesco or some other place. I know getting a job isn't easy at 60 but supermarkets do recruit older persons so he could apply for a job and if he gets it sell his cab reduce his debt a bit etc.
Else does he have Handyman skills. If so pop a few cards in local shop windows and he might pick up a few jobs. There are always people like me looking for someone to mend a fence, tidy up some trees or even decorate.

Thank you to all of you who have took the time to read my post and replied, you really have resorted my faith, that there really is some good people lefted in this world! Big hugs to you all!!
As I’ve said in previous post, my dad is a stubborn old sod but he has his reasons, , giving his back ground, his mum and dad weren’t the very nice to their children.
Two of his brothers died twins at the age 16 months because my Nan lefted them in the kitchen sick, they both fell out and died, my dad tried at the age of 4 to bring them back to life but they both died. My dad also had pneumonia at the age of 6 and his brother who was 8 at the time carried him all the way to the hospital because his dad was too drunk to take him and Nan was too busy selling on the markets. My dad was also put into care in Wales at 8 years old, as his mum couldn’t cope with all the children she had. My Nan and granddad where horrible people, but can’t really go into much detail.
Anyhow cut a very long story short, my dad didn’t turn out like them, he only wanted the best for his family, we were treated so well, my dad would walk to the end of the earth to make us happy, he has always worked 2 jobs at one time, worked at fords in Liverpool, then came home for tea, then back out again to taxi, he came home around 4am ,My mum also worked very hard , she use to start at 6am -2pm job, never slept until housework was done, tea was cooked and kids where bathed and in bed.
Both my mum and dad deserve better and so do many others, this country hacks me off, because for those who have worked all their lives get nothing! you watch that Jeremy Kyle show and that makes you really wants to put them in my dad’s shoes for 1 week and he’s so right in what he says that guy!
At the End of the day you fight to get and pay your own way, then you get beat up by drugies, who knock everything out off you, no wonder he’s given up! Won’t mind my dad is only 5’6 and is 8 stone, and couldn’t hurt a fly! This country is a disgrace, something needs to change.
Ok on a brighten note my dad got pension credit! Super!!! I went around and made him call up, he was shaking and kept hanging up, as my mum deals with all the bills ect, but the outcome was fantastic, the lady on the phone was so nice, and really wanted to help him, she also asked to talk to me, to tell me what was going to happen and how much he was going to get, she also told me, “your dad would be better off if he packed in his job as we would pay him the whole £189.39p a week, and your mum could claim DLA and we will come out and fill in all the forms for you” She also asked to talk to my dad to tell him herself, that he should pack in his dad, as he would have more money.
Anyways my dad got off the phone and was happy again, but still won’t pack in his job, said maybe in a few months or so, stubborn or what!
The future looks brighter, because of you guys and all your great info and help! Just like to say once again big THANK YOU XX I really do Appreciate it.
Hugs and loves Cathyx0 -

Hi Cathy
That is a sad story. They should be getting more than they are getting in help. Good news that there is no mortgage outstanding, but how are they in 28k debt? Is it PPI payments, overcharged bank/credit card charge payments and redemption fee charges etc. - that's where you need to start.
Things are really bad in the UK at present, with mortgage interest rates, banks going 'under' etc. I would seriously look at selling their property and moving abroad (Spain) - as my retired parents did 4 years ago and have never looked back. They sold their property in the UK, bought a 'cave house', had it renovated, and both of them said they would never, ever live in the UK again.
Just as an example of living costs there:
Water, bins and lighting approx 23€/quarter
Car tax 78€ per year (1.9 brand new Ford Escort 5 door). No ITV (MOT) for 3 years
Car insurance 450€ fully comp including breakdown
Electric approx 110€/2 months (quite expensive)
No gas
Oil (only required in winter) - 2 top ups around 800€ for winter months
Diesel 1.13€/litre
Petrol 1.19€/litre
Local tubo of cerveza in bar 1.20€
Menu del dia between 7.50€ - 8.50€ (3 course meal including wine and 'pudding')
Monthly shop at Lidl, Mercadona and Consume around 120€.
The best of all is that there is NO CRIME in the village they live in.
Oh, sorry to mention all the fiestas that go on during the year where the ayuntamiento (town hall) provide free drinks, food (paella in May) and entertainment for the kids (and the adults if so inclined!).
Get out of the rat race of the UK and stop paying ridiculous prices and fearing for your life. My parents did it, so can they - they are only spring chickens .... and many others can too!0 -
Sorry, also forgot to mention they live inland in a 'cave house', where temperatures outside can reach 40 plus in the summer and below 15 in the winter and in 2007 we had 3 foot of snow, which was exciting for the villagers!! Don't panic, cave houses retain a constant temperature of 68 degrees all year round!! So it's heavenly cool in the summer and lovely and warm in the winter.0

If i was in their position with regards to age, safety etc,I'd sell the house, clear the debts, and move abroad to be debt free and living in the sunshine ! Somewhere just a few hours in a plane away from the family..0 -

This is all very well for some people. Remember it can be very lonely as well as difficult if you do not speak the language. Always difficult to learn a new language as you get older. Don't forget access to a loving family is very important.0 -
Hi Cathy,
You mentioned your dad was badly beaton up recently. Have a look at the following government website: https://www.cica.gov.uk. As he was a victim of violent crime he will be able to claim compensation under the scheme. From your description of his injuries he should be able to claim a substantial ammount.
Hope this is of interest!0
