Could anyone tell me how to stop Tiscali broadband from hounding me for £5.11p.I signed up for the broadband service from them but after a week of 0845 helplines and non working service I gave up. I cancelled and was told that was fine as it was in cooling off period and I was even promised £20.00 as a goodwill gesture and payment for phone calls and time wasted etc. I have not received payment as promised and am now in the hands of collections department for the £5.11p. Everytime I ring to complain about latest demand I am racking up costs even more as its an 0845 no. I know its only £5.11p but I cant pay on principle.

I'm also in the same sort of boat as you - getting charged by Pipex (owned by Tiscali) even though I'm no longer their customer.
I don't know what to say to you. So far I have written a letter of complaint and posted and emailed it. I have also disputed it with my credit card company and complained on http://www.ispreview.co.uk/new/complain/complain.shtml . If nothing else works then I'll complain to ISPA, I think. And that's all I can tell you to do.
They are charging me £25.99 per month even though I left them back in September so I know your pain pretty well.
I hope you can get this issue resolved. By the way, you should double check with BT Wholesale and make sure they haven't left a tag on your line even though you cancelled.0 -
If you have made a written complaint and they have not resolved it within a reasonable time frame you could go to www.CISAS.org.uk for arbitration.
The best part is that it cost you nothing to go to arbitration, but I think it cost them fees when a case goes to arbitration:o. The decision is also binding on the service provider.
Given a choice between paying a few hundred pound in arbitration fees and writing off a fiver, I guess they'll chose to write off your money.0 -

From my understanding, if you want to use CISAS, you either have to get a letter of deadlock from your ISP or, if they haven't responded, you have to wait three months from the time you wrote a complaint. Then CISAS get involved.0 -
Thanks all, will try deadlock letter and CICAS.0

You shouldn't need a deadlock letter for CISAS is is OTELO that require one, however Pipex/Tiscali/XYZ don't seem to take OTELO or CISAS very seriously right now. I suggest you write a letter send it to Pipex/Tiscali/XYZ recorded giving them 7 days to resolve the issue if they fail then contact CISAS and explain to them. I would think they would take it on right away as you never took their service in the end anyway.
If it's a small amount then CISAS getting involved will normally get things resolved straight away, when it gets a bit bigger however (hundreds) you might have a struggle and need to contact Trading Standards.. But thats another story for now try CISAS and good luck.. This message will self destruct in tens seconds..
Oh and complain to OFCOM (they will register it as another black mark)0 -
You could always ask for help on their forum http://www.tiscali.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=7 I've see a few people get sorted in there0
