I think when they talk about gambling its over 5% of your debts have gone on gambling, plus there wont be a paper trail for putting the lottery on.

    Now for the big question...

Details of the cause of your bankruptcy? Just how much detail do they want here?

Started with relationship breakdown and used credit to furnish new house as I left with nothing - debt was being serviced successfully (missed 2 CC payments in 2 years) - was still using cards for stuff but knew I could afford the payments - got to BR stage because company I did 99% of my work for reduced my hours...that's kind of it in a nutshell, does the OR need more info?

All you can do is put the truth, I think mine was about 20 lines long, but if thats how it happened thats how it happened. You could put dates ect. so for example approx when did relationship breakdown ect. when did it start being a problem with reduced hours ect. When did you stop paying creditors and why.

ok, I've added a little more detail
I ended a long term realtionship with my ex-partner in January 2007 and moved into private rented accomodation.
I left with no furniture, so I used credit cards to set up home on my own.
As I had no transport and needed to travel on a daily basis I also purchased a 2nd hand car. At this time I was happy to use credit cards for this purpose as my self employed work was paying well and I was able to meet the payments towards my debt. In September 2008 the company for which I do most of my work informed me that, due to the 'credit crunch', they were no longer able to offer me the same amount of work as they had previously. I have taken on another job working in an hotel but this together with the reduced income from the other company will only just cover my essential outgoings.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

That sounds fine to me, you are telling them the truth of the situation you find yourself in, and no point waffling on about things.

I wish you well with your petition and hope you return here to let others know how you get on. Every post here is valuable to others facing the same problems.

If you need any more help just post up your question as someone here will reply to you.

  • Thanks so much for everyone's help so far - I'm really very grateful.

For some reason (head in sand perhaps?), I just can't bring myself to actually send in the forms - is that just me? It all makes it seem so final :(

Am also a little worried that the OR may have to inform my landlord about BR - WHY?!?! What if she decides after my 6 month tenancy end that she doesn't want a BR living in her property?

I'm soooo worried and overwhelmed by the whole thing - I guess like a lot of people I have good days and bad days...today is a bad day. I've not slept for a couple of days and not eaten either - interesting weight loss plan!!!
  • No, its not just you. I took forever to book my court date for the same reason.

If BR is your only way forward, then take a deep breathe and remember your doing whats right for you.

Some ORS don't inform your LL. Does your tenancy agreement have a BR clause in it? is the rent upto date?
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(
  • You're right, I really need to get myself properly focused and just GET ON WITH IT!!

The rent is up to date, I've only been here 3 months and it's always paid on time and in full. There is a clause in the tenancy agreement which says the landlord can reposses the property if I become bankrupt.

Any ideas how long it takes between submitting forms and court date?
