susi - numbers are different depends where you are from. Click HERE.
Be aware though that because he had things done only last year the grant may be smaller so he may have to contribute something - may be small enough to manage but if not, we were told to contact our local authority to see if they could help with the costs.

  • May i add that the Warmfront grant is appropriate to most people and if you need your house adapted, if you are classed as disabled, then there is futher funding available. This is through your local council although is on the website at https://www.direct.gov.uk then click on the right hand side 'disabled people' then home and housing options should take you directly to the section. Please read it fully as there are other areas that may be of interest.
    I hope this helps someone.
  • well after my last post on this thread in feb I finally had a visit from the 'engineer' to check whether my old boiler is fixable or due for replacement - he took my word that the boiler was extremely unreliable (true) and said it was too old to bothering to repair (well he does represent the company who will supply and fit the new one) - as the boiler is around 25 years old I'm obviously pleased with this outcome - really dont know what I would have done if he had said otherwise - once again its a big thanks to all on these forums who pointed out this grant in the first place - I wish I could hug you all! Apparently the work will be done in about 2 months time; roughly 9 months after my initial enquiry so patience is a virtue in this particular process.

Which is the correct one to apply to? there are different numbers. Is the eaga partnership the same as warmfront? Theres also another different number for warm front on the government site so its a bit confusing. Is any better than the other?

My boiler is 18 years old and I tried to put the heating on for the first time this winter tonight and it wont go on. The boiler is in the loft (valliant combination) so I can't check it myself. I'm on incapacity benefit I don't know if I'll get it or not but I'm going to try anyway as I dont have the finances for a new boiler

My water is actually working so I don't know exactly whats wrong but after 18 years theres going to be problems, I'm really hoping that they will grant me a new boiler but as the water is working they may not, thats if I am entitled at all

What do you think my chances are and is there anything I should or should not say when I ring?
    Thanx

  • We had the surveyor round last week and have been told we qualify for new central heating. (At present we have no central heating and a 20 odd year old electric immersion heater for our hot water).

The surveyor said to expect to wait around 6 months for the work to be done.

In the blurb it says that the pipes will be surface mounted and the radiators put in cheapest place to the site them, unless you put the extra towards to have the pipes concealed etc.

My question is to anyone who has had the work done already. Did you pay extra to have the pipes concealed and radiators put where you wanted them? If so how much extra did it cost?

    Hi everyone,
I’ve just joined this form and here’s my story, well actually it’s my Mum’s, but I thought I’d get your views on it. She applied for a warm front grant back in February because here boiler was playing up and was rather old. Her old boiler is in a utility room downstairs and she has a hot water tank in an airing cupboard upstairs in the spare bedroom. It’s quite a big cupboard and there is only room for a single bed in the room. A constant complaint when her sons/daughters come to stay with her is that the tank is always making noises in the night and when it come on in the morning it makes an almighty racket. Added to which if the room was a bit bigger, ie. the airing cupboard was removed, she could use the space for her hobby (sowing- which is currently all over the house.) I thought that if she got a new boiler put in into the utility (in place of the old boiler) she could get rid of the airing cupboard and make the room into a hobby/guest room. Then she got a visit from an engineer sent by Warm front from a company named Harland Rise. He told her the only place a new combi condenser boiler could go was in the airing cupboard upstairs, in place of the hot water tank. He said the utility room would mean the flue was too close to a window and the neighbours boundary, so that was out. The garage was a non starter because the flue would have to go through the flat roof, something his company refuses to do. He told my Mum, and her friend who was there for support, that the airing cupboard was the only place. She reluctantly said ok and signed for it. Now she has changed her mind and is thinking she would prefer not to take the grant and to pay for a boiler herself, and have it in the garage with the flue coming out of its roof. Or maybe find someone who could re-route the flue so it is not near a boundary or window. I thought the saving of £2700 was a lot to give up, but she was adamant. Now she got a letter saying the cost of the new boiler is £800 and the work is £1900. The grant would cover everything. This seems a bit cheap for a boiler, and a bit expensive for the work of fitting it in. Has anyone any experience of Harland Rise? There refusal to site the boiler somewhere else and excessive costs has made me suspicious. Are they trying a scam whereby they fit a cheap boiler and inflate their fitting fee. I know they are approved by Warm Front, but I am not impressed. Also, as she has signed for the boiler and the company says they have ordered the parts, does this mean she cannot cancel. If she could do you think Warm front would still consider her for a another grant ie. Loft insulation?
We’re in a bit of a tricky situation at the moment and don’t know what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Its a bit weird that the price quoted from them is exactly the max grant that warmfront go up to £2700. Not sure how much boilers are but why would the cost of installation be more than twice as much as the boiler itself, seems quite high to me I'd be inclined to speak to warmfront about it

    Hi Lady_K

Try 'googling' the name of some of the boilers. Approx £800 seems to be about par for the course, then there's the cost of installation which depends on what needs to be done, where it's sited, etc.

  • Hi Lee. I have just had my central heating done under warm front (it was completed today actually). I think you will find that children on DLA do not count only adults do. My son and husband both get DLA but when the assessor came round he said we would only get it because hubby is on it and that children do not count (why they don't count he didn't say).Anyway hope this helps. If it helps I applied online approx 2 months ago. Assessor came round within 3 wks and the central heating/ boiler was done today and my loft insulation will be done in the next 2 weeks.

What area are you specsappeal? And what company did the work for you on behalf of warmfront? I'm still waiting, the first man came round to look at the house to say what I needed doing I then got a letter from warmfront saying a company had the job so I dont know who comes round next if its an inspector froim warmfront or one from the company doing it but no on has actually checked the boiler yet
    Thanx
