Halifax charges on student / Current account

Had a halifax student account.

Aug 14th was the date i was given when the student status turned into a current account. So i got a graduate account with RBS, transfered £1700 to my halifax account to get it at 0 - my halifax account whent from -£1,700 (overdrawn) to 0 around the first week in september so i had around 2 -3weeks off being overdrawn by £1700.

today (2nd oct. ) have noticed two payments

Interest Debited - notified last month - £25.70
Charges as Notified - £35.00

What i dont get is, what the hell is the £35.00? and should i off deducted £25.70 if i was overdrawn by 1700 for 2-3 weeks?

The £25 is for interest in those weeks.

The £35 is for going overdrawn over your agreed limit.

Check with Halifax to see what your overdraft limit is.

ok thanks...will call them next week - if they still insist on charging me £35 i will simply tell them that i would like the account closed !

btw, it is now a halifax current account.

My Overdraft limit is - £1,750.00

So why do i get charged for going into my overdraft, surely the interest covers that.?
  • be really careful with halifax

I had a student account with them and they charged me over £600 in charges. I claimed them back and they said I could have 100% back, however, whilst my case was going through they withdrew my £1500 overdraft and sent it to a debt collectors! they then gave "my" charges money straight to their internal debt collectors.

Absolute pirates. Did i mention i had only gone over my overdraft my £5!

Was it not converted to a graduate account?

Halifax don't do a Graduate Account. They just let you keep the Student Account for 1 year after you graduate.

yikes £600! for going 5£ over!

i dont understand, my overdraft is 1750 which is authorised? so if i go into my overdraft surely i shouldnt get charged - surely if i spend 1,751 (£1 over) i would get charged as i have gone over my overdraft limit - unauthorised?

That post is seriously making me consider switching my current account more than I already am I at the moment. Plus with this Lloylds take over I don't want it no more due to reading quite a number of complaints about that bank. I'll be switching soon enough might try RBS with them having a grad account.

I just noticed I was charged on my Halifax student account, £25 for “charges as notified”. I have NOT been notified about anything and why doesn’t it state what the charges where for instead of “charges as notified”

I don’t even have an overdraft with them. This is ridicules and I will definitely be moving my account.

So I take it this is an annual charge just for having the account??

I can't wait to earn money so I can close my halifax account - I went overdrawn so they charged me, I put money in took me back into the overdraft, they charged me again and took me back into the red. This continued for 2 weeks and they charged me over £200. I'm going to claim it all back as soon as I get the account closed - roll on next Sept!
