You can as long as its cooked in between!

Frozen mince can be frozen once its been made into a chilli etc

i know but i mean if she cooks it, then defrosts it, that she cant freeze it again, as it will already have been frozen 'cooked' once. ??

i might be wrong but thats what i have always read on here?? that you can only freeze once in each stage so to speak.

i agree, if meat is cooked then frozen, you cannot freeze it again even if it has been cooked/heated again, you can freeze raw meat then defrost then cook then freeze, only once at each stage.x

Curry the Turkey and refreeze, casserole the chops and refreeze, eat the meatballs asap, and have the steak as a special Friday or Saturday night meal. That's what i'd do anyway.

    Hi

About an hour ago my fridge-freezer stopped working. I was in the kitchen and the circuit breaker tripped for the socket it was plugged into. I have tried to change the fuse and plug into a different socket but it is still not working. So I have given it up for dead but cannot contact the repair people until tomorrow.

Can someone please advise how long the food will last in the fridge and freezer?

Also are there any old style tips for how to keep food while I am waiting for the repair people to arrive. In fact any advise is apreciated.

    Thanks

Freezer should last 24-36 hours, provided you don't open the door too often.

Then all food that cannot be kept chilled and refrozen should be chucked (or a big cook up!)

Fridge probably about the same. Sealed unopened stuff may survive a little longer.

Don't mess around with meat, once it's started the thaw, let it thoroughly defrost, cook and eat it.

Even if you get a new one tomorrow, the new appliance should still be left 24 hours before it's switched on. Never switch a fridge or freezer on straight after moving it, if it's been moved any distance (or turned on it's side).

You could seek out friendly neighbours, with either freezer space or the offer of free food, or claim on your house insurance?

Modern fridges etc don't always need to be left to stand - my parents just got a new one and we able to put it straight into use.....take your guidance from the delivery man / instruction book.

Good luck getting your situation sorted.

Thanks for your responses. It has started making noises again so I think maybe it is just the bulb that has gone. I will leave it until the morning and see how it goes.

Do you have any sort of thermometer in the house? If so I suggest popping it into the fridge section (if in any doubt at all leave the freezer door firmly shut) and seeing what that suggests.
