Ok before anyone says anything like I know they tend too (on the freebie board anyways lol), I didnt know where to post this but firgured this would be the best place.
Now im a young guy, smoked for a good few years now and wanting to quit. Now i like to think i have will power, so long as i stay home in front of the box and "freebie hunting". Now that may sound sad but its not as bad as it seems if i have friends round an maybe a few beers. Generally with this situation i wouldnt want to smoke. But at the same time whilst at home i know i have a few smokes in my pocket for the morning before work, i barely ever touch them due to having a no smoking house but....... now comes the reason im on here.............. damn those no smoking ads!!!! They dont make me want to quit, they want me want a smoke, they remind me i have them!!!!
We all know shops sell patches, inhalers etc so why allow them to be advertised on tv. The only stop smoking adverts i agree with are those not selling but advertising websites an phone numbers such as nhs help lines!!!!
BAN ANY ADVERTS THAT CIGARETTES INDIRECTY OR DIRECTLY CREATE A HUGE PROFIT FOR!!!! GRRRRRRRRR!!!!
Sorry please dont shout guys, i actually came here especially to shout (but now im gonna do some freebie hunting to calm down hehe!!)

I agree! When I was giving up (for the 4th time, but now 18 months ago), every time I saw someone smoking on tv, or saw an anti smoking advert, it still made me want one!!
Anyway, I recommend the Allan Carr book:

Read the amazon reviews if you need convincing!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
To Quit. See you nurse. Get some patches, about 2 weeks worth and polo mints.
Set a date when you are away somewhre, or on a course, in the near future and say that is the day i give upsmoking.
On the day, wake up and say you are a non smoker. But one tip, smoke every last on you have, do not buy anymore. Even if you have only 5 left in the packet, smoke them. Do not put unsmoked cigs in the bin. (You will see why later!)
Through out all smoking materials after you have smoked the last ciggy. That includes lighters, ash trays etc, to the bin. (But not you unsmoked fags)
Put on the first patch.
End of day one
Day three is painful, but you skin will start changing, becoming less taught.
Day Five. if you did not smoke you last fag on day 1, you will now be scrumming in the bin for it! painfull I know, only 10 days to go now. That is how long you remian in need of nicotine! Come of the patches today, otherwise you will become addicted to them!
Day 14. You are now a non smoker, or in reality an Ex Smoker.
I am on day 1,318!0 -

Hmm I tired that though. It said smoke whilst reading the book and you'll give up before the end.
I was quite disappointed when on the last page I was till smoking!
Think I read it 2001/2002. I finally gave up in 2004. I just carried on smoking and it worked. I'll explain, I couldn't give up so I thought the only way of giving up was not stopping. I used patches to get nicotine and still smoked, but not normal cigarettes. I smoked ones with no nicotine in.
If you really want to smoke you'll smoke anything. I went down the patches size and stopped using them 3 months later. At the same time because the cigarettes weren't technically actually doing anything I didn't smoke them as much. I think I stopped using those shortly after I stopped using the patches.
Thats the proper way to give up!0 -

I don't think my heart was in it on my first 3 attempts.
I tried patches but had a nasty reaction to them. I tried a give up smoking site, and it just felt too patronising. I tried an inhaler thing, and felt like a prat! I read the Carr book as a last resort, as I knew several other people it had worked for, and when I read it, I was in a sceptical frame of mind, not convinced. I was indeed still smoking by the end, but it certainly made me question why I was smoking, and a couple of days later, I realised that I honestly wasn't enjoying it any more, & I just stopped.
My problem was I could never admit or believe I was addicted until I actually tried to give up bafter 8 years! I honestly believed I could stop any time I wanted.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

So would you also ban adverts for chocolate because they make fat people want sweets?0

And now they are going to put pictures of tumours and dead people on cigarette packets...So would you also ban adverts for chocolate because they make fat people want sweets?
And they think that will make people stop. How stupid are these people? The more they say 'NO' - the more the smokers will rebel, and the youngsters will want to smoke or try it....
World has it all out of proportion. Tell someone No, and they Will.Genie

the allan carr book worked for me along with loads of chewing gum and patches/nibbles (although for me the low dose patches didnt work felt like i was craving all the time)good luck i tried sssssssssssoooooo many times and now i have done it its great (didnt realise how often you think about a smoke until you stop).:D0

The best way to give up?
Just don't smoke.
After only three nicotine-free days you are past the physical withdrawal (which is nowhere near as bad as the patch/gum companies make out..wonder why
) and you can start defeating psychological triggers. All you have to do is not smoke. After encountering each trigger 2-3 times without smoking you will recondition your brain.
That is how I did it, 2 months ago, after 7 years of smoking. No patches, gum, inhalators..no nicotine at all. You will be fine if you really want to quit. I was. In fact I have never felt better in my life and I know 100% I will never return to smoking.
Have a read here..and especially here for some excellent, free advice in video and written form. Knowledge is power! That is key.
Good luck!

It's much easier to give up chocolate than give up cigarettes!!
And besides, smokers are reliant on one vice only, whereas fat people just eat too much. Eating is a normal thing required for staying alive, whereas smoking isn't.
Smoking is an addiction, whereas I would argue that eating too much is perhaps greed???Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
