If you like black glass but finding it's really expensive, what about putting a black/dark wallpaper behind plain glass? My neighbour (an interior designer) did it in her kitchen and it looks really good!

You know what, thats a great idea.

My kitchen is oak with black top & cream tiles & walls.

My sisters is cream painted wood with black top & cream tiles & walls.

The black top with the cream units looks amazing.

I've got upstands & tiles, but I think upstands & glass look heaps better.

Thanks for the tip - after finishing the walls though, could you see the areas you'd applied the Zinsser?

Nope, not in the slightest. :D

.... pity you didnt come on here and asked about a really good wipeable matt for kitchens, as I would have told you what to use.

Tell me now then please? :D

Since the kitchen has been put in, the walls have numerous marks that wont come off. I think I'm going to have to paint over it again.

    Ok, your forgiven. :D

The paint I would suggest and definately does do what it says on the tin, is 'Dulux realife paint' its scrubbable, washable, and 10 times tougher than your ordinary emulsion, and comes in matt.

Its cost approx £29 for a 5 ltr tin, and can be bought from any of the DIY sheds.

Now the downside, not really a downside, but what I call a downside, lol is that they only a few colours in the retail sections, but you can get whatever colour you want mixed, and its still realife.
The client I used it for, I had to get the colour mixed, but that wasnt a problem.

Now, the other downside I find is the actual paint, it has a different feel to it when you cut in with the brush, if you have used ordianary matt, then go to this, it sort of feels slimy as your brushing it, but the actual rolling has a nice roll to it.

The other thing, is I would suggest you slighty water it down, specially when your brushing it for your your cutting in, as it can appear draggy and thick.

I work with paints every day, but do notice that it has this appearance, and if you want a flatter look on the walls, then just add about 10% of water, and if it still feels draggy and thick, add a tad more, and use a med pile roller.
The thinner the paint, the better the finnish, I dont mean like P water, but just a nice consitancy.

If I were you, I would paint one wall at a time, cut in top and bottom, then roll straight away that one wall, going as near into the cuttin in as you can without hitting the ceiling, then move on to the next wall.

It is excellent stuff, and would definately recommend it.:D
