Going Digital....

So we are finally going digital in my Mums part of Scotland shortly, she's just recently got to grips with her DVD/HDD recorder and somewhat miffed that it's essentially going to be a "door-stopper" come the analogue switch-off

Mum is also a terrestrial TV viewer and really not interested in 500 channels of $hite, so long as she gets her fix of the news and Corny of an evening that's good enough :D

What's the best option for infrequent TV use and a convenient method of recording programmes while out etc.?

She's also reluctant to have a satellite dish anywhere near the house so non dish methods are probably better "received" to use a pun :rotfl:

Any tips or suggestions?

Cheers in advance

Freeview through her aerial, but she may need the aerial upgrading.

she can still use her dvd recorder if she has freeview as she can tune to the channels through the freeview box and just have a scart lead that goes to the recorder like we have .

Get a humax...it's a bit of an outlay initially, but there's no subscription and it's *so easy* to use...

As the crow flies she has direct line of site to the transmitter which about a mile away - would that be sufficient with the existing aerial?

Does that mean you can then only record the selected channel on the freeview box via the input selector on the dvd/hdd recorder and no longer use the built in tuner and the preset channels?

...Or can you tune the dvd/hdd recorder tuner to the full range of freeview channels?

I'll need to google that and see what a Humax is first

humax is a HDD recorder for freeview - think of it as Sky+ for freeview, basically...

You can record up to two channels at once and watch a recorded program, can do series link, pause live tv, all that kinda stuff.

You could then connect the humax to your dvd recorder via scart to record anything you want

You haven't said which recorder it is, so no idea whether it's got analogue or digital tuners.

BTW, I definitely second the suggestion of a Humax, I bought one for my mum last year and it's been excellent.

It's reasonable to assume it's analogue given the thread title, but the addition of a £15 freeview box will convert it.

I'll third the Humax. We've had one since they launched (three years ago?) and I'd buy the same again today.

You will more than likely be able to record with you existing box, threw a new freeview box of course. But if you want the easy all in one option, Humax is the answer
