ok, now i'm jealous!
there was something similar at my aunts wedding...these were cousins who lived in cornwall at the time, and weren't prepared to come up to Liverpool any earlier than the day before the wedding....so, aunt said no. Although their mum was a bit annoyed, the girls themselves couldnt have cared less, they still got to go to the wedding, still got to meet everyone etc, just didnt get to walk down aisle in the same dresses as the rest of us.
But, most importantly, aunt was happy...and as it was her day, thats what mattered.

If you take the route of ordering several dresses, you need to check how long you can hold onto them before you send them back for refund. I know in some shops there's a 28 day limit.Signature removed for peace of mind0

Thank you all for the good advice. I am going to speak to the girl's mother (and get my boyfriend to speak to their father as he is reliable) and explain the problem.
I will tell her that the girls can only be bridesmaid if:
1. I chose and order the dresses in the UK as they will have to match my cousin who is also 10.
2. They are in Scotland four days before the wedding to be fitted (I have spoken to a woman who tells me she can do this and she is altering my dress).
3. If the dresses are not altered then the girls will not be bridesmaid.
It sounds harsh but I do not trust her to get the dresses altered as I have been warned about her being unreliable many times in the past. I will tell her and her husband these are the conditions and let them decide if they want to be in Scotland 4 days before the wedding.
I do not have the heart to disappoint the girls by telling them they cannot be bridesmaid (even though life would be a lot simpler if they were not).
Thanks again for all the advice.
Best wishes,

Hi spikeage
I think you're right, and I wish you luck.
I remember what happened when my daughter got married in 1993. Her wedding was going to be in Derbyshire, where she lived. She wanted her 2 nieces as bridesmaids and nephew as ring-bearer. Only problem: the theme of the wedding was 'The Railway Children', reception held on a preserved steam train. And they lived in West Yorkshire. I live in Essex.
I did a lot of the running-about - went to Huddersfield Uni library and got copies of fashion magazines of the early 1900s. A bridal dressmaker in south Essex made the costumes: white smock-type dresses for 2 little girls worn with sash for the older one but loose for younger one, as per fashions of the time. Skirts for the 2 adult bridesmaids copied from the fashion-plates, high-necked white 'Victorian' blouses, bought from Nightingales.
For fittings, I had to transport the children from West Yorkshire to south Essex. Everything worked out fine. Just needed a bit of goodwill, that's all.
I've also attended a wedding where the bride was a nanny and wanted all the children she'd looked after to be her attendants. As it was late October, she'd chosen autumn colours, green, bronze, gold, velvets etc. It looked fantastic. But, she has a sister-in-law who has a daughter - they wanted to be part of it, the bride said no, she doesn't get on with sis-law. Sis-law and daughter turned up dressed as bridesmaids in mauve. They managed to get themselves into some of the photos, and it looks completely wrong - the mauve really clashed.
Best wishes

Next bhs oe debenhams do some nice off the peg ones!
I've got 8 bridesmaids from 12 to a little one of 7 i've got ours from next.com and have allowed for growth plus its one of those designs that dont need to be altered as the waist has ties for a bow at the back.
Do they have access to any of the above shops in their country or mail order that way you control the outfit !!! Mine have all been tried on and back with me so i know where they are!!0
