HELP! Dvd video freeware burner needed...any ideas?

Options
Hi!

I often post on the Travel Boards & have been off a couple of weeks or so with training, company conferences...etc...

One of our 'talks' was about technology. I've now realised that I needed a DVD/CD writer (only £31-Pioneer, dual-layer, www.stuff-for-computers.co.uk!) to back up work data & burn back-up CD'S & DVD'S. I've downlaoded DVD shrink (which is freeware & SO easy) but can't seem to find a DVD video burner freeware (that's not riddled with spyware or is shareware) download anywhere! Any ideas?? Looking for something similar to Nero.

P.S-That stuff-for-computers site is well cheap-same as the cheapest dvd writer on pricerunner (except with pricerunner the cheapest has usually £6 p&p)-the media is especially cheap!

Thanks!

Chris

Buy an OEM copy of NERO, will be a lot less than the retail boxed version.

  • Have you actually got your burner yet? If not, wait because you may get Nero bundled with it. Failing that, try HERE.

  • Yup-hardware installed (pioneer 2 layer dvd/cd writer). Already got the one you mention, Glenn-FAB for CD but burned a DVD to h/drive with DVD shrink-tried copying/burning it with CD XP PRO -it took 15 mins (& seemed to be working) but when I tried to play the finished disk not a thing! A friend of mine thinks this programme is not for DVD VIDEO??

I know about holidays but this stuff is so conplicated....(!)
  • I would follow the advice of vultura as Nero does the lot.

  • Glenn/Vultura-THANKS!

Will do....the only 'free' burners I've found either don't work or I don't understand them! The xp cd copier works great for CD'S but can't seem to get DVD VIDEO to work.

    Thanks for your help!

What's wrong with DVD Decrypter? Isn't it built into dvdshrink, if not then you can download it free. I know it hasn't got a pretty gui but it does the job much better than nero.

As money user says - try DVD dycrypter. I use Shrink and Dycrypter togethor to burn DVD's. You can set shrink to automatically open and burn the files with Dycrypter once it's finished. Never had a problem yet.

  • Hi!

Just about got this sussed! Using DVD shrink then imageburn (freeware written by the guy who did DVD Decrpter-interestingly now BANNED by macrovision as it helped 'crack' encrypted DVD'S!).

Not come across a DVD that SHRINK won't copy so far! Maybe I'm wrong but DVD encrpter does not compress & I guess by using DVD encrypter 1st (saving an ISO image file to hard-drive) & THEN compressing with shrink & then burining with imageburn gives a whole extra task & takes longer-am I missing something?

Also SHRINK seems to have this 'deep-scan' quality & an icon to tick for 'best quality' that seems to produce (so far!) great results.

4 more questions (!)...1stly what is an OEM programme/copy as mentioned by vultura?

    Secondly, if i was to use a dual-layer DVD-R, & I wanted to put/burn TWO dvd's to it-how do I go about this with SHRINK/IMAGEBURN?

3-Media! Have had great results with cheapo DVD-r/+r dare I say it from poundland (!!!)-any reccomendations on cheap places to get media OR certain brands?

4-ISO files on hard drive-tried to 'zip' to save space-won't let me do it as it say's file is too big-any ideas?

God-what a learning curve-did not even know what an ISO image was yesterday!
