I have been a customer with next for over 8 years and never had a problem, when you go to checkout, or should I say when I go to checkout it gives me the option of debit payment or next directory account.0

Do you mean the type of card you want to pay with, or the type of card you want them to give you?
The type of card to pay with presumably.
Next don't offer a choice of cards to give you. At first with a Next Directory account it's like any other catalogue that offers credit, they don't give you a physical card to begin with.
It's only after having the account for 6 months or so that they offer you a card. The card they offer is simply a Next branded store card which can only be used in Next stores.0 -
I ordered of next (online) on the sept 25, got package and a suprise account with a limit of £300 , didn't get a card, but they have opened some sort of credit account. On phone to them as I type to cancel this stupid thing.

I don't want to come across as rude but these things usually happen when people don't bother to read what they're agreeing to.
On the Next website it gives the choice between the following when you register as a new customer:
- Free delivery if you open a Next Directory account. You save the £3.95 delivery charge but have to pay £3.75 for the catalogue.
- Pay a flat £3.95 charge for delivery without having a catalogue and without opening an account.
All the information is there about what will happen if they select the Next Directory account option. There's the box which needs to be clicked to say they've read the T&Cs.
Next have provided the information, it's up to each person whether they choose to take the time and read it.0 -

I have since contacted Next and they have confirmed there is a problem with their site whereby it occasionally skips the payment step erroneously. They cancelled the credit request and processed my debit card over the phone.0 -
