Multifuel stove near gas pipe

Hi,

We are about to buy a medium multifuel wood stove but realised today there is a gas pipe just an inch away from the back of where the stove is.

Do stoves push heat from the back? Obviously I dont wish to cause an explosion

Any suggestions would be welcome

Regs say that there should be 12" between the stove and any combustable material, I reckon NG is pretty combustable
Stoves radiate heat over the whole case but I've noticed on mine that the inglenook doesnt turn into an oven, cat disappears round there and come out the otherside unbaked, but it does heat up.
Personally I'd be looking at moving the pipe, got to be cheaper than rebuilding the house, assuming that you survive the explosion.

Thanks. Yeah I saw the 12 inch rule but read it as being the front of the stove, like it incuded your coal and wood as an example of being 12" away. But on most stoves you store the wood directly underneath.

Im going to ask the pipe to be moved, it was put in a really dumb place. It basically goes across the middle of the fireplace. The flue and chimney are in good working order, its just this stupid pipe.

If its beneath the stove and you can bury it under the hearth it should be shielded enough, the great lump of slate I've got never gets as warm as the old concrete open fire hearth I'm guessing it was the pipe that fed the gas fire so cant you get it capped further back and just remove it?
