Do you have nice bright tiles in your kitchen?

Wanna show me?

Links or piccies appreciated! My kitchen has lots of black and I want to lift it a bit but can't find anything I like that costs much below £100 a metre. I hate shopping for tiles so much :( My kitchen has been nearly finished for about two months.

There was a lovely pic by a lady with pink perspex splashback but H is refusing perspex in any colour.

  • I have black granite tops. I have a feature inset space where my range cooker sits and in there I've used jade coloured tumbled marble tiles.

    How about coloured glass splashbacks?

Coloured glass splashback would be my wish but the budget really isn't going to stretch that far. I've thought about having one just for the cooker area but my cooker isn't centred and I don't know what then to put over the rest of the area.

My worktops are speedstone which was a very cheap rejected customer order from B&Q and they don't have upstands and I can't get matching upstands without ordering an entire kitchen!

The prices are not too bad.

  • Mine are dk. grey slate-look porcelain 10 x 30 part way up on the walls...gas hob is in an island unit, so no tiles there...not much help am I?? sorry..:D

Your mention of perspex did spark up a memory tho..I read in one of my D.I.L.'s home magazines that someone used this and used the clear one. They put really flash brightly coloured patterned wrapping paper behind it, then carefully sealed the edges with translucent silicon.

When they got fed up with it, they ripped out the wrapper and swapped it for something else just as flash. It was dead cheap too...might this be something worth considering? I'll see if DIL still has the mag..

Edit to add...actually, it could have been strips of wall paper

We just went with black granite tiles behind the hob to match the worktops.....then we have a red feature wall and red accessories, andjust plain painted cream walls. I hated the old tiles in my kitchen and swore I would not have tiles again. This way I can change the accent colour, accessories and wall colour, as and when.

I LOVE that stuff, I want black. I only got an 8.5 meter long X about half a meter (ish), so thats 4.25, or 5 meters at £260 = £1,300. Probably extra for all the cuts & stuff too!!!!
My tiles cost nothing like that!

What about a zinc or stainless steel splashback? They look great with black. Hopefully they will also be sufficiently macho for H. I used to work in commercial interiors and one of our own kitchens was done like that, it looked fantastic. Sorry, no pics though...

Actually, that's all been quite helpful guys!

I have cream walls with one large black feature wall at the moment, but maybe I would be better going for something like steel or slate on the walls (I have seen some lovely strips of it actually) and then repainting the black wall in a brighter colour, or indeed using wallpaper there instead!

    I'll have a ponder when I'm doing dinner :)

I've seen loads of options (glass, ceramic, sizes and shapes) in TilesUK this weekend, for much less than £100sqm. .
    Is there one near you?
