I hope someone can answer my question.
I have a BT Voyager 2091 wireless ADSL router from my days with BTinternet. I'm now with Orange and have their Livebox, so I no longer need the BT router. My daughter is with Orange but not wireless. I am wondering if she can make use of my old BT router in order to get her Orange Broadband made wireless. If so, can someone please point me in the direction of how?
Many thanks in advance.0 -

AFAIK the older BT routers (pre-Home Hub) are not firmware locked to BT, so you can use them on any ADSL service, including Orange.
Though if I were you I'd keep that for use on your own Orange service, rather than the useless Livebox.
She just needs to log in to the router interface and enter the set up info (basically her username and password and any other info required by Orange). Once connected by ethernet, she can then create a wireless connection. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Thanks for your time. I've delved a little deeper and found a site that explains how to unlock the BT router even though it has firmware.
btw I haven't had any problems with my livebox as such. What I have noticed with Orange is that, very occasionally, the connection is lost for a few seconds. One thing that does annoy me is Orange email. Sometimes I have occasion to write very long emails and experience with Orange means I save to draft every few minutes. For some reason Orange logs me out of my email automatically after a while, but I don't know this has happened until I press the send button and then all my email that I have spent a long time on, is lost! I never had a problem with BT except for the cost. But, all in all, Orange meets my basic needs, which is all I need.
Thanks again.0 -
So the Voyager is firmware locked then?
Why not use desktop email software (Outlook Express, Windows Mail etc) rather than Orange webmail? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I never thought of that. But I would have to send out emails to everyone to say I had changed, yet again. Actually, when I moved from BT, I understood from communication that my BT email account would be suspended. I transferred everything over to my Orange email (files etc) and yet, a year later, I am still able to use my BT email. I still use it sometimes, although friends have said my emails to them often go to their spam folder. I also seem to get a lot of spam on the BT too, some of it from very inappropriate sources and even from !!!!!! type Yahoo groups !!!! (BT uses Yahoo).

You don't have to change your Orange email address, you just access it via the relevant email program rather than via webmail.
But the real solution is to switch to Gmail, and then your email is entirely portable and ISP independent! No free lunch, and no free laptop0
