Your ADSL connection is totally seperate from your wireless network.
Think of it like this. The ADSL connection is the connection between internet and your router. Your wireless network connection is the connection between your router and your computers.
Internet > Router > Computer
The only way your wireless connection could effect your ADSL connection were if it were slower. In other words creating a bottleneck.
This is very unlikely though. The average ADSL connection these days is about 1-2Mbps. Whereas 802.11g or super-g (types of wireless connection) run at 54Mbps and 108Mbps respectively. A lot faster, note though it won't speed up your ADSL.
Also, you never get full signal though with a wireless connection. For example my computer is two rooms away from the router, and it gets about 50% signal. So I actually get around 25Mbps on my 108Mbps network. 25Mbps is still way faster than my 2Mbps ADSL connection, so won't cause any problems."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

Hi, I am also looking for a wireless router with NTL & have been looking at Netgear, Linksys & D-Link (?) - I tried Belkin but had no end of problems & got my money back !!
I s'pose my main problem is I need it to go from downstairs (where my modem is) & spread a good enough signal up into my loft (I'm in a bog standard 3 bed house) My choice of Belkin was the Pre-N Router.
Anyhow, any suggestion much appreciated.
Many thanks,

My post No 9 above might help.....:)
The distance from my router (downstairs) to a laptop upstairs is about 75ft - the signal has to travel through several rooms/walls/ceiling - and is fine!0 -
For those who haven't considered it, for NTL use the ASUS WL-500G deluxe (available from https://www.scan.co.uk ). Apart from all the ususal features, the thing that we find convenient is the two USB ports, which allow printer sharing between any PC's on the network. A print server alone is about the same price as this Router.
We have found it 100% reliable, and have had it running for over 6 months now.0 -
I had a Dynamode wireless router from dabs that wouldnt work atall had it since October so i was very pleased to send it back and despite all the bad reports they have given me the money back :j .
Bekin was recommended to me but when i went into Tescos (thought i would use a load of vouchers towards this purchase) I was told that belkin sold by them only support certain providers and Talk Talk would not work with theres and i need a universal Belkin. There were no sign sup about this and he said once you open the box u cant bring them back i was just lucky i was checking to see if i was buying the right thing)
What I need is wireless router to work with computer that has no built in wireless and a laptop that does have a built in wireless connection. I got a bundle type last time.
Can anyone recommend which one i should get and how do i know if its the universal model ( not sure if its only Ts that has these constraints) that will easy connect to Talk Talk
Not been offered anything by talk talk and not happy with them so dont want to give them any more business
Many thanks for any one with any info dont want to buy the wrog thing0 -

hello and sorry, can i poke my nose in please. my old laptop died last week and have bought a new one which is vista home. we thought we'd treat ourselves to a router so not to be tied to a corner of the living room. i bought a belkin g+ but i couldnt get it connected as all the ports have different fittings, i now have read that it is not compatible with usb connections (i have an orange speedtouch modem attached by usb). I also have a thomson st585 v6 modem router given to me by someone also on orange so they could be wireless but never used it. in the box is a yellow cable (patch cable??), a grey cable with little square plastic bits on each end - they will fit into my current adsl filter and rear of modem. i have no idea where the yellow cable would fit in as i have nothing it fits where the telephone is, it only fits the new laptop and the thomson modem. i have all my details from orange, isp codes, authorisation codes etc (?????). the thomson modem never had a disc when it was sent out from orange.
so my question is: are either of the routers -belkin or thomson - able to be used or do i have to go and but another one?
any help will be great as im still wading through my old laptop problems with help from alienrik and we cannot afford to really spend alot of money on a router as its a luxury really but being wireless will mean i can keep it safe from my 2 year old. thanks in advanceA happy wife, and mum to 2 lovely little boys :j0 -
