when I called Birmingham MOT City Council Workshop I was told that they do only taxis and their own float... I might try again next year knowing that some people managed.
Meanwhile, I went to RCT garage in Northfield passed the MOT for a bit less than 40 quids . A miracle (car with 95,000 miles) as far as I am concerned because my previous dodgy garagist had already is big smile on his face when reminding me that I would have to come again soon for the MOT.

I took my husbands car along to:
Ellesmere Port & Neston Borough Council's testing centre on Rossmore Road. (tel 0151 3566789 to book)
He couldn't understand why I wasn't using our local ford dealership as normal. Saved £11 and it passed first time. He was stunned!!!0 -
Took mine to the North lanarkshire test centre today.
Only £30 for my test and a first time pass with only one advice on a potential problem.
The guy asked why i came to local authority centre so i told him. Cheaper test and a fear of being ripped off by the garages.
All in all a pleasent experience, except for sitting in the car on the bloody lift 7 feet upTotal Value of wins in 2009: £900 appox. 2010: £730Wins 2011: Carlisle Utd Tickets (twice!), Baby Food Hamper, Straighteners, Chugginton Toy0 -

Mines done 180,000 miles, and has passed the last 7 MOT's. That's partly because I use the local authority VTS, and partly because Honda Accords are the most reliable car on the road.0 -
I suppose that if you think there is a chance your car will genuinely fail then it is better at a garage as you can get it fixed and retested without incurring an extra test charge?0
