Duvet question

I need some help with this as I have to buy shortly. A couple of questions:
1. Is there an acknowledged market leader/best brand?
2. I have found a deal on ebay which seems to offer an ideal compromise - two quilts (one 4.5 tog lightweight summer and one 9 tog medium) which can if necessary be linked together to form a 13.5 tog winter job. Does anyone have any experience of this system and would they recommend it? Comments?

Had this sort of quilt for ages and they worked really well. just had to add more tapes to join them together as they seemed to "magically" undo themselves.
really useful to have the middle weight quilts in spring/autumn.:DLead us not into temptation...
just tell us where it is and we'll find it....0 -
I can't imagine having any other sort of duvet! I've just put the heavier half back into the duvet cover after the summer section got too cold on its own now the temperatures dropping. Very cosy instantly!
(Bought mine from Woolworths - Kingsize for £18)0 -

M&S, Fogarty, are good, but so are others.
2 in 1's are good.
Got to be natural. Feather/down is OK, but I've just switched to pure new wool.......... might try silk for a summer quilt.
Love it & no feathers spitting out.0 -
Ok, thanks for that.
Please feel free to add any other comments.0 -
I've got a goose down duvet
. Expensive, but so warm and lightweight! I bought it from the Dunelm Mill shop, but can't remember the brand at the mo.
I'm also looking at the wool ones on https://www.whitecloudtrading.co.uk . We already have the wool pillows from there.
My OH currently has a normal 13.5 duvet as we prefer the Scandinavian way of having a single duvet each on our shared bed. A much better idea as then you get the warmth level you require....and no fighting over who's got most of the covers!0 -

Works well - as long as you remember where you put the thin quilt when you take it off in the summer, and don't have to buy another :whistle:0 -
I've got Dorma duvet. Synthetic filling as OH allergic to feathers. I've only had this 2 in 1 quilt for 2 years and I've never used the 4.5 tog one. It's still in it's original wrapping in the box. The down side of two quilts is that you have to store them and in the summer we just kick the quilt off if we are hot.
The Dorma single quilt fits in my washing machine easily and even though it's 10 year old it looks great despite my regular washing. The one I bought 2 years ago though isn't as good quality and will need replacing next year I guess as it doesn't bounce back after washing (has to be laundrette as too big for my machine).
I've also still got my 13 tog quilt from 22 years ago (wedding present). It was a good make at the time and has taken regular washing throughout. We just found it too hot (well I did, it's probably my age:o )~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

I got the 'all-seasons' duvet set from Asda when we moved here. Great system - got the 'lightweight' one on at the moment and will change to the 'heavier' one at the weekend. Will attach the 'lighter' one back in around mid-Dec till weather starts to pick up again around end of Feb. These have large plastic 'poppers' in the corners and have not had any trouble with them coming undone.
A friend of mine did her own version by using pieces of velcro hand-sewn to the corners of two duvets.0 -
