could I make my open fire into a stove by ?

could I make my open fire into a stove ?

by getting some stove glass and making a bracket for it to fit in front of the fire place leaving about a 100mm gap at the bottom.
Would this be worth doing as would it stop a lot of the heat loss as it will stop a lot of the draught. The only problem I can see is lifting off the hot glass to put more fuel on.

Any thoughts..

Wheres the draught coming from to cause heat loss? The fire needs a good draw of air to burn correctly.
And I think that you'll end up reflecting some of the heat back up the chimney and make the room colder.
