Disappointing buying experience.....

Hi everyone, Just looking to vent my frustration here.

3 weeks after ordering from an online retailer I have recently been informed that it may take up to 6 weeks to deliver the items I ordered.

Am I impatient? would waiting 6 weeks for delivery of item's that you ordered be acceptable?

Is it legal for a company to advertise products that they do not have and are not easily sourced?

You thoughts are welcome.

Thanks

I don't know the legalities, but I would have thought they should tell you at point of order if items were out of stock and needed to be made/shipped etc. 6 weeks does seem a very long time for delivery if you weren't informed. What is the product? I know that some larger or speciality items like sofa suites, furniture etc can take a while if they are made to order.

Saying that though, I ordered a snowsuit from Jojo Maman Bebe two weeks ago and am still waiting for it to arrive. I successfully ordered it online and phoned up as a discount code had not worked, to be told that it wouldn't be in until the friday. I used the online tracking system and it was apparently dispatched on the 21st (a sunday?!) and using Royal Mail standard delivery would take up to five to seven working days. Well its day seven and I am still waiting!

  • Thanks for your reply.

I ordered sim cards from buymobilephones.

Is there any government dept I can complain to as I also think that customers should be told at the point of sale not 3 weeks or so later after I wrote to them?

Maybe a consumer watchdog agency?? Have a google and see what it brings up. Can you report Jojo Maman Bebe whilst you are at it as the postman has been and its not turned up. The guy on customer services was not at all helpful and tried to tell me it had only been two days!!! Can't he count?

You have a statutory right to demand either they deliver within 28 days (or 28 days after the delivery date specified at the time of ordering, if later), or the order is cancelled (with full refund).

Might not be useful, because most online retailers let you cancel an order without any fuss. But if you ever place an order that looks like never arriving, and the retailer says "no, we have a signed contract, you cannot cancel it", write and demand that it arrives within 28 days or the deal is off.
  • The problem a lot of internet companies have as I work for one is that they often get let down by their suppliers. A lot of internet companies are linked to suppliers systems, so often goods are shown as in stock even if they are not. I always offer to cancel if the customer is not happy it does not matter how long they have been waiting for their order be it 2 days or a week.
