I have accounts with Co-Op and Smile (the Internet only Co-Op bank). I've been with them since I started my job in September 98, as a condition of employment was we had to have an account there for our pay to go into (unless they refused to open an account for us when they did the credit reference checks) as the job was for part of the "Co-Op family".

Never had a problem with them in all that time -- apart from one bank charge on a Co-Op account when they did the 'monies out' before the 'monies in'. Apparently this is standard practise, but as I'd never been up against the wall that tightly before I didn't know that -- so they refunded the charge while I was on the phone to them (and this was only in the last 18 months or so) as it was a 'first offence'. I've only ever had to phone Smile a couple of times, and I know one of those was to get a new debit card when machines stopped reading mine. Can't for the life of me remember what the other call was, but everything else is either done on-line by me or via PM type communications (and they are quick at getting back to me).

But I'm looking to open an account with at least one other bank -- to spread the money around. Currently considering Lloyds TSB as they're within walking distance, but plan to call in to and chat with Abbey, Halifax and BOS next week (all in the next town, so walkable if the weather is reasonable).

    Hi guys and gals :)

Taka, I want to know why HBOS took 2p of my 4p interest last month, that's 50%! Imagine if they took a single penny from every account?!

One more box of clutter gone via Freecycle - I'm always good at giving stuff away. Also, we've now handed in notice on this house - so that's it official :D

  • Best of luck, Nyk Re the Freecycling, I always look at the stuff I have cluttering up the place and think, "No-one's going to want THAT!" and so it stays here, cluttering up our home and collecting dust/being fallen over/etc - want a trip to Wales?! :)
If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!! :D
  • Marru, I've belonged to an IVC club in the past. I'd say go for it. I joined because I needed to get out more and make friends etc. Some of the activities were really fun (tried gliding, fungi identification walk) and loved lazerquest:rotfl: (shooting people in the dark with lazers woohooo:D )obviously pick the events that appeal most at first to get your confidence up. Ours had events especially for newcomers so they were geared up to make sure everyone got talked to too. I think with all these things , the friendlier you can be the more you'll get out of it.
SL - I confess I have never washed a chicken before cooking it in my life. Am I a domestic s*ut:rotfl: .
Thanks cw re email question: I think I need to write it in my diary each week.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
  • Well, if you are then I am too! In my [our] defence I can only quote a certain well known female chef [:A D .... ] who pointed out that the spatter and probable resultant drips from the washing of a chicken would probably spread more bacteria than just using it straight from the packaging/fridge! And none of my family have ever been ill from chicken [cooked at home] :rotfl:

And you are also not on your own at entering in the electrickery readouts - I've only done two and I set the group up!! :o
If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!! :D

Good evening. I've just come in from picking yet more apples. They are disappointing this year, due to the weather perhaps, there are dozens but they are small, although as one fell and hit me square on the forehead this may be a good thing. I have a lump like a marble! DH has just taken a tray full to the pub to give them away.

I was cross this morning. I transferred some money into my Barclays account ready to put it in an ISA on Tuesday. I have an appointment. A man from Barclays called me this am and asked me to confirm details. I asked if it was about the appointment thinking they wanted to confirm something. He said no but that he wanted to go through my account to see if he could save me money. He then read out the list of some of my direct debits and said he could perhaps get better deals on them. I said I'm sure they would tell me on Tuesday but he was quite insistent and said 'let's look at them from the top' I said no and put the phone down. I know they can look at my account but I felt it was none of his business who I pay by direct debit and certainly didn't want to be questioned about them all and have to justify payments to someone on the phone. Rant over.

    I'm going for a Christmas Dinner in a minute - can't wait!
Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me

    OOOOOOOhhhhhhhhhhhh no Girls,

Defo wash the chicken before eating, I wash steaks and fish as well, I suppose it depends on what you have been taught, my gran was a school dinner cook (the high heid yin) and everything was washed. I got taught that in home economics as well. I wouldn't listen to D***a, I'm not a fan of hers anyway and she has proved herself not to be old style due to her last programmes which I thought were rubbish (an outcry from D fans to follow.......).:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Each to their own, I always adapt recipies and suit them to myself.

Going to Frankie and Bennys with my pal tonight, am not looking forward to it, I'm an a la carte girl:D

Wish I was going for Christmas dinner instead of F & B.

    Check in later,

    SL x
