Live on £4000 for a year - part 4 (Oct - Dec 2008)

Now thats got to be the best reason not to set the budget yet - who knows what currency it'll be in
£4000 = 309,442.21 Rupees
But without the conversion in the same statement, it does sound like someone would be able to live the life of Riley doesn't itCheryl0 -
:j :j Bails - sounds really exciting, can't wait to hear all the details.:j :j
Nothing much exciting happening here at the moment, I'm feeling a little empty/deflated as if I'm waiting for something. Sounds silly when I write it down:o
Still haven't set a budget for next year as I want to tweak a few things yet and get some renewals sorted - hopefully at cheaper rates. I will probably only decide mine in December too.
Tonight i m going to put together my mum's xmas present - which will be a gardening hamper (all stuff bought in sales with quidco money) and some garden centre vouchers, also bought with quidco money.:D So far the total cost of xmas in hard earned cash is £23:j everything else has been money neutral over the year:D .
Also making OH a coffee hamper so need to do that tonight whilst he is out at work;) I got some free mugs and coffee beans when our town recently acquired a starbucks, also got other bits on bogof for his:D
I think frugal pressies can be much more personal and heaps cheaper:p
Going to use some of my jams and chutneys etc for some other people too.0 -
Bails - OOOH! How exciting!
I have been very frugal today and got shredded card and hay for my rats and piggies from my work placement. Saved ooodles of money as only paid 9.- instead of 50.- plus.
Also have been going through my to do list with vengance. I have got all of 18 items ticked off today, which I am sooo proud of. I think I might still be able to get two things done. Including to todays things to do was to sort out Christmas. I ordered charity card (from animal charity), made donation to other (animal) charity so I don't need to buy pressies now (I have DD's ready and waiting), for DD's godmother I arranged gift dog sponsoring. Also finally managed to invoice my hours, set a bet to hopefully bust out from an Aussie bookie (please pray that Preston and Watford won't end up in draw), sent application to blockplacement for next summer... and the list goes on...
Off now to watch It Takes Two and then cooking pasta to go with the tomato sauce I have in fridge as I am starving.
Have a great evening everybody!!

Not silly at all Sophiesmum, I've definitely felt like this (most of the summer) and I'm sure others have too. I hope something shifts soon.:grouphug:
Thanks for all the excited wishes; I'm bouncing up and down and OH is quite non-plussed tonightMen eh, who knows how their brains actually work?! Yet he's been going on about this for ages...bless him, he's so unpredictable :rotfl:
Taka, if you'd love to do something similar, is there any way you can?
I love the idea of doing the challenge in 400,000 rupees :rotfl:If we do go it'll probably be next summer (after my course finishes) so that's why I was thinking it'll be difficult to do the challenge as we'll only be here for half the year. Still, half a year in India would make it much cheaper overall :j
Well done on getting all your jobs done Marru, that's a serious achievement! :TThe 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

Has anyone else spotted the MSE thread with snow reports?
We haven't got any here but it's certainly cold tonight. Despite my obliteration of 50+ units of electricity over the past 24 hours, the temperature in hall is now down to 10C and it's 14C in the heated rooms. High ceilings, stone walls and built like a lighthouse is definitely a home for the prosperous only, it'll never do as a frugalhome for anyone on a budget. Estate agent informs me that the energy certificates come into legal play from January 1st here, so he was fairly impressed when I was able to tell him what my current grading was according to the Oxford uni research project at i-measure. (I see they have a winner of the £250 prize draw, sadly, it doesn't sound like anyone here, as it's a 'he'.)
Now, in a last minute flurry of bids, I have apparently sold all 4 of my items that I listed last weekend. I thought my auctions had finished at the weekend with no bids, but I had somehow managed to list on 10 days! :rolleyes:Had emails for all 4 saying sold! Out of a laser printer, digital camera and 2 x PS2 games, I don't think I even cleared £5 after fees! Won't be trying that again, that's for sure.
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Bails, how exciting:j. This sounds amazing. I know a few people that have done that and they have amazing stories to tell.
Silly question but on a more pratical side, what will you do with all you stuff and your house for that time?
My excitment today was restricted to more simple things, I cleared some cupboard space for my massive T!!co delivery tomorrow which should allow me to feed us at least for the next month (plus some stock for later). 90 quid roughly but got a few BOGOFs and vouchers to come off the estimated price. Might only need some fresh fruit/veg towards the end (plus we'll be on holiday for a week). And I went through my finances again to see (as a motivation to be really frugal) how much money I could save over the next 6 months to put in my ISA (future house fund mainly). :TDEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/250 -
Bails, that sounds brilliant!
I'm cold here, but I don't think it's snowing outside at the moment. I was warm until the cat got off my lap... must get more cats. Had a very long day on a course in London, but now I know a bit more about asbestos and have 1 1/2 hours of flexitime. I was hoping to get a bit further with the cross stitch picture this evening, but got assigned an online mystery shop that has to be done by Friday. I've got most of it sorted now, just waiting for email replies then I can finish it off tomorrow.
I got an exciting parcel of dishwasher tablets to test today, so I need to make some more washing up so I can try them out!
Edit: forgot to say, Sophiesmum, that basket looks fantastic :-)Live on £11k in 20110 -
