Live on £4000 for a year - part 4 (Oct - Dec 2008)

Marru, Mr S was still 96.9 yesterday.
Redglass and Whitewing, I like my sieve head as it means I keep finding money in unexpected places! And I can never remember what a film's about.
There are developments here which might make my participation in next year's challenge quite different, but I'll let you know more when things are a bit firmer. I might hold off on the new budget til then, as it could be irrelevant. The 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

petrolprices.com have my local Mr S at 94.9, but they're in spitting distance of a Mr A who are that price so could well be a 'price match' thing.Cheryl0

Oh yes, sieve brain is a common affliction here. My philosophy is that it is necessary for us to have sieve brains as a frugal measure so that we are able to read the same books over and over again and still be surprised at the ending.

I knew there must be a reason for it, thank you so much!

Oh, Bails, the suspense! Is everything OK? My mind automatically jumps to complete changes of circumstances, which can mean one of only a handful of things ... fingers crossed for you!
I noticed yesterday that one petrol station in town had reduced prices to 96.9 but the other (Ess*) was still at 100.9 We don't have supermarkets with petrol stations here so can never reap the benefits.
I'm going to spend a fortune on electricity/heating etc over the next 5 weeks but am going to try my best to stay within budget, even if it means cutting back on Christmas. (Everyone knows we're moving and have furniture etc to buy and we've almost a month overlap during which we'll be paying for 2 houses, so they should understand.
Sun has decided to shine here but not much hope of getting into garden with a dodgey back n 2 gammy legs! Numbercrunching, might stick on a washing, might bake, might do loads of things or else I might just finish work and then play on the computer pretending MSE IS work. :rotfl:I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

I kept my spending diary yesterday via the notebook I bought. It makes interesting reading, I did not get anything in particular yesterday, but spent £12.39. Breakdown: 2.00 carpark, 5.48 Marks and spencer for 2 tins of salmon and a packet of crisps, 4.91 in Tesco, for pasta, blistex and wrapping paper. I am shocked:eek:  .
This was really on nothing, so just shows how the cash can go. I'm keeping it for a good while so that I can see exactly where it all goes to, and if it is sensibe spending or just on rubbish.
Will check in later,

What's up with you Nyk,
Have I missed something? I hope you haven't hurted yourself.

nyk - sorry to hear about your bad back and legs, hope you get better soon.
bails - hope everything is ok, it sounds ominous...
Well, Mr S should have delivered my goodies between 10-11am. They rang to say they were running late and didn't know what time they'd be here  . Finally turned up at 12.45pm, it wasn't the drivers fault as the packers hadn't done their bit. Got another £10 voucher from them though for being late. So I'll have to have at least one more online shop with them to take advantage of free shopping.
We're off on our "free" holiday tomorrow. But with petrol, outings and food it'll be about £200  . Not really free then is it?!Should really go and pack but I can't tear myself away from the poota!!

But it'll still be a frugal holiday, as you'd have needed to eat food wherever you were and who knows what frugal bargains you may find whilst in a different location?Have a fantastic time.

Oh no, it's not ominous, don't worry Purplevamp and Nyk :rotfl: If anything, it's more like this if it comes off :j You could read it that I've won the lottery, but I can assure you it's not the case! I'm pretty sure it's not what you're thinking Nyk but feel free to guess and I'll tell you if you're rightHee hee!
Have a lovely holiday Purplevamp, and it is free in the sense that you'd have had to pay whole lot more if you hadn't won it

sounds really exciting bails. Everything crossed for you:j .
SL - I've been enjoying your enthusiastic conversion to all things frugal:T . It's been a big learning curve for me too since I joined the thread in July.
We're trialing not buying fresh milk this week and using powered instead. Tastes fine in tea (if already made up into liquid, not adding power staright to hot tea).
Busy today adding to big shopping list for end of the week shop and selecting items to maybe bulk buy.
EDIT: my guess bails is that you've found a bursary for 'resting' teachers to enable them to spend a year travelling.:DI try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0
