Would heartily reccommend NOT installing Comodo firewall...it may be free, but it is the most intrusive piece of software I have ever installed. It asks you almost constantly about everything...it the end you just say 'yes' to all the messages without understanding what exactly the issue is, just to make it go away! Sunbelt Personal Firewall, as recommended on this very site does just what a firewall should do and stays in the background (apart from occasional reminders that your 'trial' has expired).

Sunbelt slowed mine and 2 others computers who usd it
    Personally id recommend PCTOOLS FIREWALL
(Call it a 'change of heart' :p)

And AVG has caused so much trouble this year im even changing that advice
    Download AVIRA instead

  • ...errr I've installed PCGuard on four different pcs and have never had any problems with it. It always tells me if I've got a virus and if it can't delete it automatically, i.e. most of the time, I can do it manually. It updates everyday automatically and it doesn't hog the system unlike many other AV progs. I really don't understand anyone who says it's a poor product because it does exactly what it's supposed to do, and no less.

Id get rid of PC guard, i dont use but then virgin havent sent me a copy or said to download it

Likewise, it's useless and rubbish... You don;t need it as long as you run a firewall and anti-virus yourself..

    'exactly what its supposed to'

Well, its SUPPOSED to keep up (To the best of its abilities) with the LATEST malware/trojans/spyware etc
It doesnt. Its definitions files are WAY behind the best anti virus software, and its firewall is full of 'leaks'
if you believe your safe thats upto you. your safe'r' than someone who doesnt USE anti virus software, but thats all.

I don't pretend to know anything about PCs, I really don't. I probably have your average layman's knowledge i.e. I can install programs and run them. I've had it running on various desktops and laptops since it came out a few years ago (it's currently running on my desktop and my 2 kids' laptops) and I've NEVER had any problems with viruses trashing any pc, so you're dead right I believe I'm safe. I'm only going on MY personal experience.
